Job Description
The University of Leicester is seeking a Research Technician to support a UKRI-MRC funded project on host-directed therapy for tuberculosis. Responsibilities include performing assays, managing laboratory operations, and collaborating with international partners. Candidates should have laboratory experience, knowledge of safety regulations, and skills in microbiology. A scientific qualification is required, and the role is full-time based in Leicester, UK.
This Research technician will provide essential support to a team working on the UKRI-MRC funded project focused on development of host-directed therapy to remove Mycobacterium tuberculosis persisters. Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge which requires innovative approaches for successful eradication. This project is led by Professor Galina Mukamolova at the University of Leicester in collaboration with Hasanuddin University (Indonesia) and Ubon Ratchathani University (Thailand). The Research Technician will work with a Research Fellow and collaborators to achieve project milestones and objectives. They will perform specialised assays for testing novel drug candidates and will help with laboratory running, ordering reagents and consumables for the project, organising of material shipment to and from collaborators.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have previous laboratory experience and knowledge of laboratory safety regulations. You should have expertise in bacterial and cell culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and cytotoxicity assays. A scientific qualification to ONC or NVQ3 level is required, and a BSc or MSc in Microbiology or a related field is desirable.
Key skills include strong organisational abilities, excellent interpersonal communication, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a research team. Experience in handling Mycobacterium tuberculosis, writing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge of IATA shipping regulations are advantageous.
