Research Technician (Climate-Related Projects)

Assist with drafting research protocols, training protocols, processes, and procedures for Climate-related projects.

Assist in piloting and refining in-field protocols and data collection methods, including the development of assessments tools and survey instruments.

Perform data entry and data processing, data audit/verification, and basic data analysis.

Support community-based climate change hazard mitigation effort, including preparation of materials for community distribution.

Support in the recruitment of AmeriCorps members, including the development of recruitment materials and outreach efforts.

Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, taking meeting notes and other tasks as needed. Maintain task lists and timelines on a regular basis and meet deadlines.

Prepare regular updates to project team members on program progress.

Communicate reliably, clearly, and effectively with project team members and community partners.

Unique duties:

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree (or working towards a degree) is preferred.

Experience working within Detroit neighborhoods or similar communities.

Access to consistent and reliable transportation.

Working knowledge of Climate Change and urban impacts of Climate Change preferred.

Background in environmental science, biological science, environmental stewardship, green infrastructure, ecology, the climate crisis, or ecological awareness is preferred.

Experience conducting literature reviews and assisting with drafting training and/or research protocols.

Minimum of one year of experience working with data is required (data cleaning, data quality, data analysis, researching sources for data).

Ability to effectively utilize software necessary to convert and process data (e.g. SAS, SPSS, Excel, Access, Dbase, ESRI GIS), and to identify duplicates and join datasets.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google products (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Forms, Calendar, etc.).

Experience with Qualtrics and survey instruments preferred.

Working knowledge of social science research methods and primary data collection procedures and practicalities of implementation preferred.

Must be confident communicating through virtual channels with team members and others.

Must be self-motivated and able to initiate and complete tasks independently; strong organizational and problem-resolution skills; detail-oriented.

Ability to prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines.

Interest in climate change, environmental sciences, ecological stewardship, and environmental justice strongly preferred.

Starting Date: August 2023

Hourly Rate: $15 -$20 per hour, depending on education/experience; up to 40 hours per week.

This is a temporary position, as the position is dependent upon grant continuation.
