Job Description

Nemours Children's Health is hiring a Research Biological Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator for an on-site position in Wilmington, DE. The role involves managing biological safety activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, overseeing the institutional biosafety committee, coordinating training, and performing audits. The coordinator will work closely with various committees and governmental agencies to maintain compliance and support the Nemours Biomedical Research EHS team.
Nemours is seeking a Research Biological Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE. This is an on-site position.

The Biological Safety and Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator, reporting to the Research Environmental Health and Safety Director, manages biological safety activities and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations at Nemours facilities. This role includes overseeing the institutional biosafety committee and the administrative functions of the Enterprise Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations at Nemours facilities within Delaware and Florida. The coordinator ensures adherence to safety policies, maintains compliance records, coordinates training schedules, monitors safety incidents, tracks various audit formats for Nemours Biomedical Research, writes reports, performs investigative risk assessment, and supports the Nemours Biomedical Research EHS team.

The Biological Safety and Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will work closely with the Nemours Biomedical Research EHS Biosafety Specialist, the Institutional Biosafety Committee Chair, and the Nemours Biomedical Research Safety Committee Safety Chair, assisting in communication and compliance.

Essential Functions

Performing audits of safety and health records on behalf of Nemours Institutional Biosafety Committee including onboarding and training programs for Principal Investigators, Administrators, members of governmental regulatory committees, and Nemours Personnel. Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Manage and monitor RedCap registrations with Nemours' Institutional Biosafety Database

1. Waiver follow up.

2. Committee review follow up

3. RSP portal

4. Perform regular audits of IBC RedCap database.

5. Perform audits and inspections of Nemours facilities for adherence biosafety guidelines per Nemours Policy to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

Directly communicating with governmental agencies including National Institution of Health/Office of Biotechnology Administration (NIH/OBA), OSHA, National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other federal and state regulatory agencies. Report discussions to Chair of Biosafety and EHS monthly and escalate if required.

Managing and monitoring regulatory required research registrations with Nemours' Institutional Biosafety Database ensuring legal and regulatory compliance. Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Managing and preparing federal and state regulatory reports for Nemours Institutional Biosafety Committee, the Operational Vice President of Research, and the Vice President for Quality and Safety regarding Research Biosafety. Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Maintaining required registrations for Nemours' Institutional Biosafety Committees with governmental agencies. Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Issuing notifications and memoranda to Principal Investigators regarding biosafety and Institutional Biosafety Committee findings

Maintaining knowledge of current and pending regulatory requirements regarding research biosafety. Required to take American Biological Safety Association Training (ABSA). Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Executing special projects associated with research biosafety Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Understanding the importance of maintaining confidentiality and demonstrate the ability to do so on a daily basis Directly Reports to Chair of Safety EHS and Chair of IBC Bio Safety Monthly.

Working in concert with members of the research administrative team in relation to biosafety safety specialist and Institutional Biosafety Committee functions. Annual Status Report to EHS and Bio Safety Monthly.

Furthermore, the EHS Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and the company's safety policies.

Key responsibilities may include:

(29 CFR 1904) Recordkeeping and Data Management:

Maintaining accurate EHS documentation, incident reports, training records, inspection reports, and compliance data within designated systems.

(29 CFR 1910.30 / 29 CFR 785.29) Training Coordination:

Scheduling and managing employee safety training programs, including new hire orientations, refresher courses, and specialized safety training.

(29 CFR 1960.16) Compliance Monitoring:

Tracking regulatory changes and ensuring company operations comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws within Delaware and Florida.

(29 CFR 1960.29) Incident Investigation:

Collaborate with Nemours Children's Hospital Occupational Health and Safety Officer tracking investigating workplace accidents and near misses, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions. Coordinate Incident for Nemours Biomedical Research Safety Committee to review and discuss. Report status directly to Director of EHS monthly

Reporting and Analysis:

Collaborate with Director of EHS generating reports on safety performance metrics, identifying trends, and presenting data to management.

Safety Audits and Inspections:

Tracking multiple audit formats from many agencies. Supporting EHS professionals by documenting safety inspections, identifying hazards, and following up on corrective actions.

Communication and Awareness:

Assist Director of EHS by assisting and distributing safety communications materials to employees, promoting safety culture and awareness.

Administrative Support:

Managing EHS budgets, ordering safety supplies, coordinating with external vendors, and handling administrative tasks related to the Institutional Biological Committee and EHS department.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred

Eligibility for or willing to obtain certification by ABSA (RBP or CBSP) is strongly preferred.

One to three years of experience required
