The Research Associate, Sustainability Strategy at Royal Bank of Canada in New York, NY, supports the Sustainability Strategy team by conducting ESG and macro research, generating reports, and collaborating with equity teams. What is the Opportunity?

Research Associate, Sustainability Strategy

What will you do?

Assist in the development and maintenance of global sustainability (ESG) and macro research including topics such as sustainable investing themes, the sustainable investment landscape, sustainable finance / climate policy, proxy season/stewardship, among other topics
• Coordinate, generate and maintain research reports, presentations and databases
• Collaborate with other fundamental equity teams and macro teams
• Provide research support to analyst as required
• Develop an expertise in Sustainability strategy
• Support and answer client queries
• Proactively identify operational risks/control deficiencies in the business
• Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities
• Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions promptly
• Regular interaction with clients
• Supporting Senior Analyst
• Key relationships: Internal clients including sales and trading, External clients as required

What do you need to succeed?

Basic Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree or similar qualification with a focus on Business, Mathematics or other quantitative fields
• Licensing Requirements – Series 7, 63, 86 & 87, SIE

Other Required Qualifications:
• Previous (1 to 3 years) experience in US capital markets industry within Sustainability Strategy/ESG/Equity Research/Quantitative research or similar role is ideal but other relevant experience will also be considered
• Excellent writing and communications skills
• Strong PC skills specifically in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Powerpoint
• Previous experience with ESG ratings / data providers / standards is ideal.
• Previous experience with market data applications such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ/Clarifi, Morningstar is ideal but those with a demonstrated ability to learn these platforms will also be considered
• Superior customer service focus and attitude for internal and external clients
• Ability to perform under pressure and meet time sensitive deadlines, sometimes for extended periods of time
• Commitment to task and an attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize work and multi-task responsibilities
• Self starter - must be organized and able to work independently
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work and coordinate effectively within a team environment

What’s in it for you?

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $100,000 - $160,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
