Nanyang Technological University is hiring a Research Assistant/Associate/Fellow in Entomology/Forest Ecology. The role involves DNA barcoding, photographing, and stable isotope analysis of invertebrate specimens and soil samples to enhance understanding of nutrient cycling in urban parks. Candidates should have a relevant Bachelor’s degree and basic skills in entomology and molecular taxonomy. The position is primarily lab-based with occasional fieldwork required.

We are hiring a research assistant/associate/fellow to perform (1) DNA barcoding (2) photographing (3) stable isotope analysis of invertebrate specimens (4) stable isotope analysis of leaf litter and soil samples. Findings of the study will improve our understanding of nutrient cycling processes in urban parks and forests, while also contributing to invertebrate biodiversity conservation. The RA would be based mainly in the lab but may be required to conduct occasional field work as well. Key Responsibilities: Perform DNA barcoding on collected litter invertebrate specimens (mites, isopods, springtails, etc.) Photograph and curate litter invertebrate specimens Perform stable isotope analysis on litter invertebrate specimens, and leaf litter and soil samples Assist in procuring project logistics and other project administrative duties Train students and ensure the safe conduct of student research projects Job Requirements: Candidate should hold minimally a Bachelor degree in biology, entomology, zoology, ecology, environmental science, or equivalent Candidate should possess basic entomological skills, such as using a stereomicroscope, insect identification, etc. Candidate should possess basic molecular taxonomy skills, such as DNA extraction, PCR, running gels, bioinformatics, etc. Candidate must be organized and meticulous to curate large amounts of specimens and data Candidate must be an independent worker Prior experience with stable isotope analyses and stack photography is advantageous, but not a requirement for application We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
