Purpose

The Industrial Sustainability (IS) team aims to support India’s low carbon growth aspirations by advancing

the uptake of energy and resource efficiency practices as well as the use of energy source with low/no

carbon footprints within the manufacturing sector. The IS team is working on several different initiatives,

which include – supply chain analysis of the natural gas infrastructure in India, assessment of green

hydrogen uptake across difficult-to-decarbonise sectors in industry and mobility applications, building

resilience and competitiveness in the micro, small, and medium (MSME) industry, and characterizing the

industrial sector value chains to analyse various aspects such as carbon footprint, financial strength,

resource requirements, and jobs supported.

The IS team seeks to hire a highly committed candidate to build and expand our multidimensional

programmes across a range of technical and policy areas. This role demands high-quality research to

provide direction, support, and insights to policy planners and industry captains on decarbonisation

options. The candidate should have an active and self-directed interest in emerging market applications.

She/he should be able to perform resource assessments, techno-economic analysis, risk assessment,

scenario comparisons, etc. The role offers an excellent opportunity to build and strengthen an emerging

research area while collaborating with international experts.
The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to

make detailed presentations to various stakeholders and write informative reports. The candidate should

demonstrate the ability to work across teams and manage multiple priorities, be detail-oriented, and be

committed to adhering to timelines. In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual

should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities.

Job duties and accountabilities

 Drive the tracking of important developments – policy and technical, in the industrial and green

hydrogen sector and be able to inform other teams of the relevance of these for their own work.

 Support the team’s policy engagements with central and state government departments through

research and data analysis and by preparing reports and presentations.

 Build data resources through active desktop research, intelligent web-scraping, and/or primary

means, etc., for several analytical requirements.

 Plan, conduct and report on complex issues around improving sectoral carbon footprints by

establishing a feasibility model for alternative fuel options.

 Write high-quality first drafts of reports and analyses for internal and external circulation.

 Generate knowledge content – blogs and policy briefs at regular intervals.

 Support stakeholder engagement and relevant convening, including policy and technical

exchanges among government officials, R&D facilities, subject experts, etc.

 Drive daily analytical requirements of the team in responding to short-turnaround requests or

studies.

 Present research to key constituencies, advisory bodies, conferences & research institutes.

 Develop research networks locally, nationally and internationally in support of research

programmes.

 Travel within India is likely to be periodic, and presence in the field - meeting with stakeholders is

an important part of the role.

Selection Criteria

Qualification

● Bachelor/Master’s degree, preferably in Technology/Engineering (Energy, Chemical,

Mechanical and related fields)

● Experience and expertise in creating techno-economic models using Excel and other software

packages.

● Relevant experience in programming languages, such as Python, SQL, R, GIS and/or others, is a

plus point (e.g. application of programming languages for academic projects, internships, and

personal projects)

● Knowledge of the energy landscape in India across various sectors and the policy techniques that

can be leveraged to bring about change is a plus point

Work experience

● 0–3 years of experience

Key skills

 Strong analytic skills, including quantitative research methods and tools that are fit for purpose.

 Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

 Ability to conduct techno-economic analysis, cost & benefit analysis, and sound knowledge of

basic economic principles.

 Strong project management skills. Confidence to handle tasks and engage with stakeholders

single-handedly would be highly preferred.
