Job Description
The City of Austin seeks a Renewable Trading Originator to manage procurement and contracts for Austin Energy's renewable energy supply. Responsibilities include overseeing the RFP process, monitoring contracts, analyzing proposals, and managing relationships with developers. Candidates should possess knowledge of ERCOT protocols, renewable markets, and relevant laws. A bachelor's degree and five years of experience in a related field are required. This position is based in Austin, TX.

Purpose: Under minimal supervision, manages the procurement and contracts for Austin Energy’s renewable energy supply portfolio as well as maintain and foster relationships with the developer community.
Responsibilities
• Issues and manages the RFP process for renewable energy procurement.
• Monitors and manages contractual terms and obligations under Power Purchase Agreements.
• Leads analysis and evaluation of renewable energy proposals.
• Monitors renewable energy markets, technologies, and regulatory changes impacting renewable energy markets and technologies.
• Works with counterparties to manage resource outage schedules and provides support to Market Operations to submit outage requests and de-rates with ERCOT.
• Reconciles counterparty disagreements with mid office staff.
• Presents and makes recommendations to executive management.
• May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
Requirements
• Knowledge of ERCOT protocols and procedures.
• Knowledge of power and financial markets including natural gas commodities.
• Knowledge of wholesale fuel and electric markets and evolving industry and regulatory developments, both nationally and in Texas.
• Knowledge of Austin Energy's wholesale fuel and energy requirements.
• Knowledge of the impacts of recent regulatory trends in renewable and energy markets.
• Knowledge of systems used to forecast, evaluate, and transact business in the wholesale renewable and energy markets.
• Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
• Knowledge of City of Austin and Austin Energy contracts processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws, and ordinances governing renewable and energy markets.
• Skill in organizing thoughts and quickly making independent decisions.
• Skill in communicating clearly both orally and in writing.
• Skill in handling conflict resolution.
• Skill in operating computers and related software applications.
• Skill in analyzing data and solving problems.
• Ability to carry out duties with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
• Ability to train others.
• Ability to accurately present and explain complex information to executive management.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
• Ability to perform job functions and assignments as part of a project team.
• Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus five (5) years’ experience in a related field.
• A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to one (1) year.
• PhD. from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.
