Castleton Commodities International is hiring a Renewable Energy Mapping and Analysis Intern for Summer 2025 in London. The role involves supporting the Power Trading Desk by analyzing sustainability regulations and renewable energy specifics in the EU and UK, focusing on wind and solar power. Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Intern to support our Power Trading Desk by providing insights into sustainability regulations, ESG reporting requirements, and regulatory risks affecting financial markets and commodity trading. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced trading environment while applying knowledge of sustainability policies to real-world financial transactions.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct a comprehensive mapping of renewable energy specificities in the EU+UK, focusing on wind and solar power, historic and forward looking
• Analyse installed capacity, subsidy formats, the split between grid-connected and behind the meter, and their evolution over time.
• Evaluate historical and projected tender results and participation rates.
• Develop projections for future capacities, compile data from various vendors, and form an in-house perspective on expected locations. Evaluate potential subsidies scheme evolution per country
• Utilise tools to manage and simulate different growth scenarios, leveraging Python and SQL for data analysis and modelling.
Requirements:
• Pursuing a degree in Sustainability, Environmental Policy, Finance, Economics, Law, or a related field is ideal but not required.
• A strong interest in UK/EU decarbonization policies, regulations, trends, and key technologies.
• Familiarity with energy systems, renewable energy, and low-carbon technologies.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, VBA, or SQL.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate regulatory insights into actionable recommendations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
