Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and innovative Agronomist to join their remote team focused on advancing sustainable agriculture practices. This position offers the flexibility to work from any location in Nigeria while contributing to impactful projects in the agriculture and forestry sectors. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies that enhance crop yields, improve soil health, and promote environmentally friendly farming techniques. Your expertise will be crucial in providing guidance on crop nutrition, pest and disease management, water conservation, and soil fertility. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in plant science, soil science, and agricultural economics. You will collaborate with farmers, researchers, and project managers to translate research findings into practical applications on the ground. This remote role requires excellent analytical skills, strong communication capabilities for virtual interaction, and a passion for driving positive change in the agricultural landscape. You will analyze data, develop best practice guidelines, and support the adoption of sustainable methods across various farming communities. Responsibilities: Develop and implement sustainable agronomic practices for improved crop production. Provide remote technical support and guidance to farmers on crop management. Conduct research on soil health, nutrient management, and water conservation techniques. Analyze soil and crop data to identify trends and recommend interventions. Develop pest and disease management strategies using integrated approaches. Evaluate and recommend suitable crop varieties for different agro-ecological zones. Support the implementation of precision agriculture technologies. Monitor crop performance and provide feedback for optimization. Contribute to the development of training materials and workshops for farmers. Stay updated on the latest research and innovations in agronomy and sustainable agriculture. Collaborate with project teams, researchers, and stakeholders to achieve project goals. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations. Assess the impact of agricultural practices on the environment and ecosystem. Promote biodiversity and conservation efforts within agricultural landscapes. Advise on forestry management practices and agroforestry systems where relevant. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Soil Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in agronomy, with a focus on crop production and sustainable practices. Proven experience in providing technical assistance to farmers or agricultural communities. Strong understanding of soil chemistry, plant physiology, and crop science. Familiarity with integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable farming systems. Experience with data analysis and interpretation using statistical software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote engagement. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. Proficiency in using digital communication and collaboration tools. A passion for sustainable agriculture and rural development. Knowledge of local agricultural conditions and challenges is an advantage. Experience in forestry or agroforestry is a plus.
