Job Description
Exponent is seeking a Regulatory Environmental Fate and Behaviour Specialist (Managing Scientist) to provide regulatory consultancy for plant protection products and environmental exposure assessments. The role supports home and flexible working arrangements. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in regulatory submissions, along with strong communication skills. Responsibilities include advising clients, conducting assessments, and mentoring junior staff.

Our Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Regulatory Environmental Fate and Behaviour Specialist (Managing Scientist) for our Chemical Regulation and Food Safety Practice in Harrogate (UK), Edinburgh (UK), Nottingham (UK), London (UK), Mannheim (DE), or Basel (Switzerland) offices.
Home working and flexible working arrangements may also be considered. In this role, you will work as part of a team to provide high level technical and strategic regulatory consultancy services to clients primarily for plant protection products falling under the relevant European (EU and non-EU) and UK regulations. Environmental exposure assessments for biocides and industrial chemicals under the relevant European (EU) and UK regulations may also be required. Leadership in the form of training/ mentoring of junior staff in the environmental fate and behaviour team on individual projects is also a requirement.
You will be responsible for
• Conducting environmental exposure assessments for European regulatory submissions of plant protection products
• Providing strategic scientific advice to clients on European regulatory environmental fate/environmental exposure issues
• Summarising and interpreting environmental fate data
• Monitoring environmental fate studies on behalf of clients
• Ensuring that projects are delivered to high standards, on time and within agreed budget
You will have the following skills and qualifications
• BSc, MSc or PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field together with significant experience of working in a regulatory environment
• A proven/ demonstrable track record of successful environmental exposure regulatory submissions for pesticides in the EU
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Experience of conducting environmental exposure assessments for European regulatory submissions of biocidal products and/ or experience of performing or monitoring environmental fate studies would be an advantage
• Staff management experience would also be a distinct advantage
