Geosyntec Consultants is seeking a Regional Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Director to oversee HSE programs for Eastern North America, based in offices like Kennesaw, GA, or Charlotte, NC. Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Health, Safety, and Environmental Director, supporting our Eastern North American operations,based out of one of our eastern region offices such as Atlanta or Kennesaw, GA; Tampa or Orlando FL; or Charlotte, NC, to oversee Geosyntec’s global HSE programs and strategic objectives within the region and lead the regional leadership team in its development of strategies to support those objectives. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position. This position is a member of a regional leadership team which is jointly responsible and accountable for ensuring that the region is in compliance with the firm’s HSE protocols and applicable local HSE laws and regulations, acts to continually strengthen the regional safety culture, and ensures project activities conform with client HSE expectations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• In partnership with the regional leadership team, develop and execute the HSE elements of the regional strategic plan and work with each operational leadership in the region to develop tactical plans to achieve HSE targets and standards, including maximizing safety performance and reducing risk of harm to employees, subcontractors, clients, and stakeholders, including the environment.
• Routinely review HSE metrics and identify areas for improvement, partnering with leaders across the region to develop and implement corrective action plans.
• Guide and oversee the overall delivery of HSE services, policies, and programs in the region, ensuring compliance with jurisdictional laws and utilizing industry best practices.
• Motivate and equip employees in the region to achieve strong HSE performance, compliance with Geosyntec and client HSE protocols and expectations, and continual strengthening of the regional safety culture.
• Lead the regional implementation of Geosyntec’s HSE management systems and identify necessary enhancements needed to meet local, jurisdictional, business, and operating requirements.
• Implement and deliver written program components, procedures, standards, and plans at regional Geosyntec and subsidiary offices/facilities, off-site offices, and project sites.
• Develop and participate in training and communication initiatives to meet various company, national, local, and external stakeholder requirements, and raise awareness of and competency in Geosyntec HSE initiatives, performance expectations, and issues. Ensure regional staff have appropriate HSE training, relative to their position and project roles.
• Ensure direct HSE technical engagement in operational planning for all high-risk activities and in other work as appropriate.
• Partner with project teams in HSE-related project activities and client discussions.
• Lead the investigation of incidents, injuries, and non-conformances in both project and office environments, in accordance with Geosyntec’s protocols, collaborating closely with operational leaders. Identify event root causes, develop mitigation actions, and ensure effective communication of findings, lessons learned, and identified improvement opportunities.
• Ensure the preparation and implementation of office safety and emergency readiness planning efforts in the region.
• Provide overall management to regional HSE team, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Manage workflow, provide job-specific formal and informal training, evaluate performance and address concerns proactively. Mentor, guide, and motivate employees to increase their professional competencies and ability to support operational needs.
• Overnight travel: Up to 20-40%
Education and Licensure
• Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, industrial hygiene, public health, environmental science, environmental engineering, biology or other related degree. (required)
• Possess, or be able to obtain within one year of hire, either Certified Industria Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation in the U.S. and/or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Canada Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) if based in Canada.
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years of related HSE experience. (required)
• Three years of experience supporting HSE in construction management and/or engineering/environmental consulting services. (preferred)
• In depth knowledge of HSE-related legal and regulatory requirements in jurisdictions where the region operates. (required)
• Have or be able to obtain contaminated site qualifications equivalent to those specified under U.S. 29 CFR 1910.120 (e) and (f). (required)
• Ability to build strong relationships and a high-level of mutual trust with leaders across the region and firm. (required)
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, written and public speaking skills. (required)
• Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel. (required)
• Overnight travel up to 20-40% (required)
• Valid U.S. or Canada (local) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
