Manitoba Wildfire Service is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Regional Fire Ranger (FR4) in Lac du Bonnet. Under the direction of the Regional Fire Technician, the incumbent provides assistance and support in the delivery of various program areas within Manitoba Wildfire Service at the regional, district, and on occasion, at the provincial level.

Wildfire Service is responsible for the prevention, detection and suppression of wildfires. The program manages all human and equipment resources needed for fighting wildfires in the province. Staff monitor weather patterns, lightning strikes, soil moisture and forest conditions to determine the probability and location of wildfires.

Conditions of Employment:
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must possess and maintain a full-stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's licence (or equivalent).
• Must be willing and able to work weekends, overtime, and may be deployed on assignment within the province on short notice which may include overnight stays in remote field camps.
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position such as flying frequently in a wide variety of small aircrafts and working in adverse weather conditions.
• Must possess and maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR, training is provided by the employer.

Qualifications:

Essential:
• Knowledge and experience in wildfire suppression and the participation in various roles and functions related to wildfire suppression and wildfire operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of wildfire fire suppression techniques, equipment, and fire-fighting aircraft.
• Experience and knowledge with the principles of fire weather, fire behaviour and fire line safety.
• Experience delivering training programs and materials.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills, including the ability to coach, train, motivate and performance manage staff.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make effective decisions under stressful conditions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as a team member.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Strong written communication skills.

Desired:
• Previous experience in research, development, and supervision of a project, program, or other initiative (training, equipment, administration, etc.) related to wildfire operations.

Duties:

Reporting to the Regional Fire Technician, the Regional Fire Ranger assists in providing technical expertise and assistance to regional and district field service staff in the planning and delivery of the Eastern Region's forest fire management program. Duties include monitoring staff training certification levels and certification currency, and assisting with the delivery of re-certification and training courses as required. The individual will assist with the research and development of new fire equipment and suppression training and may represent the region on Provincial Working Groups and Task Teams as assigned. The incumbent will participate in a variety of fire suppression functions including fireline supervision, Helitac Officer, and logistics support throughout the region or province as required. This position is also involved in conducting district equipment audits, equipment repair/testing, ordering, shipping, receiving, and assisting with inventory of wildland fire suppression equipment.
