Job Description
Seaboard Energy seeks a Regional Commercial Director for West Coast Operations in Madera, CA. This leadership role involves driving revenue growth, managing the terminal distribution site, and overseeing sales and business development. Responsibilities include developing sales strategies, maintaining customer relationships, ensuring operational efficiency, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The position requires travel up to 40% and regular presence at the Madera office.
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the VP - Sales & Marketing, with close partnership and accountabilities to the General Manager - Renewable Diesel, the Regional Commercial Director - West Coast Operations is a multifaceted and dynamic leadership role that integrates regional sales, strategic business development, and plant management. This position is pivotal in driving revenue growth, optimizing operational performance, and expanding market presence in the western region of North America, with a particular focus on California. The role involves managing Seaboard Energy's terminal distribution site in Madera, CA, which includes a rail loop facilitating unit trains and a throughput capacity of approximately 300 million gallons of biodiesel and renewable diesel. The successful candidate will ensure safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance while spearheading business expansion and market development. By blending operational expertise with a keen market-driven approach, this position is instrumental in shaping the future of Seaboard Energy's liquid fuels initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sales and Business Development (75%)
• Sales Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to increase market share and optimize profit margins.
• Customer Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers, including refiners and biofuel marketers.
• Market Expansion: Identify and secure new customers through networking, market research, and industry connections.
• Travel: Travel up to 40% to customer sites to build relationships and identify opportunities with refiners, fuel wholesalers, government agencies, and sustainability organizations. Typically, at least one day a week will be spent at the Madera office.
• Market Intelligence: Stay updated on market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to maintain a competitive edge.
• Profit Center Management: Oversee the financial performance of site operations and ensure the Madera site operates in an efficient and profitable manner.
• Integration: Manage the integration of new business opportunities and relationships, including potential additions such as ethanol production and grain businesses.
• Project Management: Work on select business development projects aimed at value growth or operational excellence.
Madera Site Management (25%)
• Operations Leadership: Oversee storage, blending, and distribution operations, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and production regulations.
• Inventory Optimization: Work with plant operations management to optimize inventory levels and develop supply chain scheduling to meet market demand, ensuring ratability and minimum costs.
• Cost Reduction: Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and profitability.
• Environmental Compliance: Monitor plant emissions and environmental impact to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Personnel Management: Hire, train, and develop the plant operations team, including conducting performance reviews and team development.
• Training and Standards: Establish key performance standards and implement effective training methods.
• Capital Improvements: Oversee budgeting, capital improvements, and long-term operational planning.
• Performance Monitoring: Set, monitor, and report on sales performance and operational efficiency.

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in science or business.
• 7+ years of terminal site management experience required.
• 7+ years of client facing business development experience.
• 10+ years of experience in petroleum-based or renewable fuels
• Thorough understanding of the California fuels and distillate market
• Ability to read and write clear, accurate and concise reports and business correspondence using standard Microsoft Office programs.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, regulators, consultants, and the public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment consists of office, plant production, and outside climate conditions. Noise level varies within the production area.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Working hours to be determined. Occasionally extended hours or changes in schedule will be required as special circumstances arise.
