Job Description

Climate Impact Partners is seeking a Regional Business Development Lead for Carbon Sourcing in Africa. This remote role involves leveraging relationships with climate project partners to secure high-quality carbon credits for corporate clients. Key responsibilities include sourcing, managing project pipelines, negotiating deals, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate should have experience in relationship management, commercial negotiations, and knowledge of carbon markets.
THE ROLE

Climate Impact Partners is a leading provider of high-quality climate solutions, dedicated to ensuring a thriving future for all life on earth. We are currently seeking a Regional Sourcing Lead in our Global Supply Chain team, to leverage relationships with climate project partners to secure supply of high-quality carbon credits for our corporate clients.

As a Regional Sourcing Lead with Climate Impact Partners, you will play a crucial role in driving climate action by strategically securing short to long-term accessible tonnes from high-quality projects. These projects will deliver on-the-ground impact and provide us with ‘sourced’ carbon credits (i.e., existing projects that are already producing as well as early-stage projects) verified emission reductions for voluntary as well as compliance markets including A6.2 bi-lateral Agreements.

To further advance our efforts, we are looking for a skilled professional with experience in relationship management, commercial negotiations, closing deals and deal delivery management, with exposure to carbon markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Sourcing & Commercial
• Seek and identify demand signals, through effective collaboration with Sales team and monitoring of market trends.
• Manage and build project pipeline to qualify leads through quality assurance process and meet current and future demand targets.
• Perform preliminary due diligence checks and coordinate with technical colleagues, effectively communicating project pipeline priority and highlighting known risks.
• Cultivate new project partnerships through proactive outreach strategies and networking.
• Liaise with Finance team to carry out new partner KYCs and monitor progress.
• Negotiate with project partners to secure desired tonnage availability and pricing, safeguarding Climate Impact Partners’ business interests.
• Ensure competitive pricing with support from Commercial team’s input and determine optimal pricing strategy.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain leadership and Commercial team where terms deviate from established commercial models or to address ad hoc operational concerns, particularly focusing on risk management.
• Prepare and issue commercial contracts, seeking internal legal and commercial advice as required.
• Utilise and maintain deal tracking and inventory systems for data visibility.
• Fulfil Sales team requests and manage tickets using CRM system.
• Proactively collaborate with cross functional teams to continually improve and standardise scalable workflows and processes ensuring these are in line with company guidelines.
• Attend conferences and workshops to represent Climate Impact Partners and seek out new partnership opportunities.

Portfolio Management
• Manage and update data entries into inventory system including accurate project data, cost and volume availability.
• Track project deliveries, flag any delivery risks and ensure action plans are in place to close and/or reduce any delays.
• Manage project partner relationships to ensure project delivery at the agreed times, communicating delivery risk and delays as appropriate.
• Manage exclusive partnerships on an ongoing basis, including ensuring timely payment, monitoring and reporting.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain leadership and Commercial teams to verify inventory availability, internal project performance and determine optimal pricing strategy.
• Directly liaise with project partners and Marketing team, to ensure provision of accurate project information for marketing materials to enhance project performance.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Essential
• Several years of relevant commercial experience in carbon markets, preferably in business development independently conducting commercial negotiations, securing preferred supply terms and seeing deals through to completion.
• Understanding of carbon regulatory frameworks and Art.6.2 sourcing
• Experience and network in forestry, conservation and/or natural resource management but also Health & Livelihood (e.g Biogas, e-mobility etc).
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and team members.
• Knowledge of legal and contract management aspects.
• Excellent written and oral command of English.
• National, or holder of a valid required work visa in the host country.

• Proven track record of effective relationship and partnership management.

• Project management capabilities to track project partners through onboarding phases.
