About the position
Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world's leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking an experienced Regional Biologist to join our South Atlantic Conservation Team. This full-time position is based in Hanahan, SC, and involves working collaboratively with a team of biologists, engineers, and land protection professionals. The primary focus of this role is to identify, develop, fund, and implement wetlands restoration and enhancement projects across the South Atlantic states, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting Ducks Unlimited's mission to conserve waterfowl and wetlands, making a lasting impact on the environment. As a Regional Biologist, you will be responsible for project development and management, which includes identifying and developing wetlands restoration projects that align with Ducks Unlimited's conservation objectives. You will also be tasked with maintaining relationships with conservation partners, including state and federal agencies, NGOs, and private landowners. Writing and submitting grants and funding proposals to secure project funds will be a key responsibility, along with managing project accounting, planning, permitting, implementation, and reporting. Collaboration with agency partners and other stakeholders is essential to ensure the timely and on-budget delivery of projects. In addition to project management, you will represent Ducks Unlimited on various conservation committees and partnerships, assist with fundraising and outreach events, and help educate the public about wetland conservation efforts. This position requires a balance of office and fieldwork, with frequent travel, including overnight and out-of-state trips. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a passion for wetlands and the wildlife they support, ready to contribute actively to conservation efforts.
Responsibilities
• Identify and develop wetlands restoration and enhancement projects that align with DU's conservation mission.

• Develop and maintain relationships with conservation partners including state and federal agencies, NGOs, and private landowners.
,
• Write and submit grants and funding proposals to secure project funds for habitat conservation work.
,
• Manage project accounting, planning, permitting, implementation, partner coordination, and reporting.
,
• Collaborate and coordinate with agency partners and other stakeholder groups to ensure timely and on-budget delivery of projects.
,
• Serve as DU's representative and regional waterfowl and wetlands conservation specialist on various conservation committees and partnerships.
,
• Assist with fundraising, development, and outreach events, and represent DU at wetland conservation venues.
,
• Establish and maintain relationships with key DU volunteers and fundraising staff, providing timely communication on project progress and challenges.

• Assist communication staff with developing information to educate and promote DU's wetland conservation efforts.
Requirements
• Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or related natural resources field (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred).

• 5+ years related experience developing and managing wetlands restoration and enhancement projects preferred.

• Strong background in wetland ecology and management with an emphasis on waterfowl and other wetland dependent birds.

• Experience in delivering wetlands-related ecosystem services projects.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Proven proposal/grant writing skills.

• Excellent relationship building and networking skills.
