Job Description
The Refugee Training and Employment Officer role at Newcastle City Council involves providing one-on-one support and guidance to refugees seeking employment, delivering workshops, and building employer relationships. The position is a fixed-term contract until June 2026, focusing on helping individuals achieve sustainable employment while contributing to the Council's goals of inclusivity and community support. Ideal candidates should have experience with refugee or asylum backgrounds.

About the role
Working closely with both the Council’s Migration, Refugee and Asylum team and the Newcastle Futures service, the role will provide one to one support, advice and guidance to Newcastle residents seeking employment who have a refugee or asylum background, as well as delivering workshops and building employer relationships.

The Job
You will deliver one-to-one support personalised mentoring for refugees in the UK to enter sustainable and meaningful employment. You will help prepare people for competitive employment and to achieve their chosen training and employment objectives. You will work to performance targets based on outcomes such as successful completion of training courses, volunteer and work placements and paid employment.
You will deliver workshops on working in the UK. You will manage a small budget to assist individual clients to access or move towards employment. You will build and nurture a portfolio of employers working with the service.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working with people from an asylum or refugee background and/ or lived experience.
This role is part funded by World Jewish Relief as part of their successful STEP (Specialised Training and Employment Programme) for refugees, working to their four core values of Individuality, Partnership, Speed and Ambition
