Job Summary
The Recycle Center Operator is responsible for the general maintenance opening/closing and general operation and cleanliness of recycle center. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Refuse Supervisor and does not have direct supervisory responsibility but oversees work performed by part-time staff and community service workers.
This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Schedule:
Tuesday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; and Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; flexibility required occasionally to assist Refuse as needed
Salary:
$17.12 - $21.40 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience

Essential Functions
Essential Functions:
Inspects and processes incoming materials; and ensures recyclable and waste materials are placed in appropriate containers
Monitors flow of recycled and waste materials
Hauls roll off containers and trailer
Informs customers of fee and payment schedules and receives payments for processed materials; responds to customer questions and resolves problems
Operates cash register regularly; and balances cash drawer and daily revenue to daily transactions for services
Coordinates and schedules pickup frequencies with outside agencies; and requisitions supplies and materials as needed
Performs repairs; general housekeeping and grounds keeping activities as needed to maintain facility in a clean and orderly manner
Performs preventive maintenance; cleaning; and repair of tools and equipment utilized by the center
Maintains written logs and records related to equipment performance
Schedules and arranges community service workers
Operate roll off truck and backhoe
Lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; and occasionally more than 50 pounds
Provides professional; punctual and courteous service at all times to citizens of the City of Owasso
Maintains communication with higher authorities as to work progress; operations problems; need for equipment; supplies and/or materials; delay in completion schedule and related items; providing accurate and timely information

Demonstrates ability to work as a team with others; and show support and respect for the organization; its policies and people; to supervisors; co-workers; customers; venders; and the public

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be a High School Graduate or GED equivalent
Previous recycling experience (paid or volunteer) highly desired
Preference given to individuals with experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in the job description
Basic Microsoft computer skills
Valid driver license with good driving record; with CDL Class "B" CDL (or must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment)
Must pass a background check
Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
Some work will include working in office on computer; most of the work will be performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions including extreme temperatures; hot and cold; wet and/or humid conditions. The work environment may also include exposure to drafts; noise; dust; grease; and traffic and may require use of personal protective equipment.
Tasks may require ability to lift/push/pull/ and/or move up to 50 pounds with mechanical or manual assistance; and typically involve some combination of walking; sitting; or standing for extended periods of time; walking; balancing; climbing; bending; crawling; crouching; feeling; handling; hearing; kneeling; reaching; repetitive motion; and mental and visual acuity.
