Job Description
The Wisconsin Conservation Corps is hiring a Recreation and Habitat Restoration Specialist for Perrot State Park in Trempealeau, WI, from late May to August 2025. The role involves trail construction, habitat restoration, park maintenance, and visitor engagement. The position requires physical outdoor work and offers a living stipend of $6,000 and an education award of approximately $1,900. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license.
Position Title: Recreation and Habitat Restoration Specialist
Position Service Site: Perrot State Park (Trempealeau, WI)
Service Time: May 27 – August 15, 2025, OR June 2 – August 22, 2025 (450 hours total, 40 Hours/Week)

LOCATION OVERVIEW: Perrot State Park’s 1,200 acres are nestled among 500-foot bluffs where the Trempealeau and Mississippi rivers meet. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking river views from the hiking trails in this park, which is known for its natural, archaeological, and historical resources.
SERVICE DESCRIPTION: Perrot State Park’s Recreation and Habitat Restoration Specialist will perform various conservation work regarding trail construction, habitat restoration, and park maintenance. They will also act as the point person regarding the Buffalo River State Trail, which connects Fairchild, WI, and Mondovi, WI.
The Recreation and Habitat Restoration Specialist will be trained/certified in:
• Chainsaw certification
• First Aid and CPR
• ATV/UTV certification
• Defensive Driving
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with trail construction, renovation and maintenance
• Remove invasive species and do prairie and habitat restoration
• Assist staff in building and repairing picnic shelters, kiosks and other property facilities
• Do carpentry, remodeling and other construction projects
• Assist with sign repairs and replacements including hiking trail maps and motorized trail signage
• Enhance pollinator and rain gardens
• Maintain park grounds, picnic areas, campgrounds and facilities
• Support park staff in educational programming
• Greet visitors and answer phone calls
• Assist members of the Friends of Perrot State Park with their trail and facility maintenance activities, special
events, and other on-going projects
• Manage and supervise volunteers
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Placement may operate machinery such as UTV’s, ATV’s, chainsaws, hand tools, power tools,
mowers, tractors, and other light motorized vehicles
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum age requirement is 18 years old
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a working personal vehicle
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent communication skills
• Understanding of or willingness to learn various conservation practices
• Passionate about outdoor recreation
• Physical demands and service environment regularly requires the service member to be outdoors in wooded areas and on uneven natural paths
• Physically able to work long days outside in inclement weather, hike on and off trail
• Able to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
• Work in a variety of weather conditions such as temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, high winds, intense, sunshine, rain, and snow
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to multitask and shift schedule and priorities to meet changing conditions
• Upon hire, a criminal background check will be conducted. Service with WisCorps will be considered probationary until all results are returned and have been reviewed
