About the position

The Rangeland Management Specialist II at Chloeta plays a crucial role within the Environmental Team, focusing on developing conservation plans for landowners as part of grazing permit transfers approved by the United States Government. This position requires collaboration with interdisciplinary natural science professionals to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and compliance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities
• Composing and editing comprehensive natural resources conservation plans.
,
• Identify and prescribe specific management actions and conservation practices that address current resource concerns.
,
• Ensure sustainable agricultural production of livestock grazing compartments within Open Range federal lands.
,
• Ensure conservation plans are in place to conduct livestock grazing operations in accordance with the principles of sustained yield management and sound conservation practices.
,
• Develop conservation plans consistent with regulations that specify the conservation and management objectives and goals of the land user and USG.
,
• Develop conservation plans specific to land use and grazing management units covered by each grazing permit.
,
• Develop feasible management options that yield acceptable economic returns and conservation benefits.
,
• Enable producers to use information to participate in government incentive programs and implement range improvements.
,
• Provide evaluations of resources to individual landowners, identifying problems and proposing land improvement alternatives.
,
• Provide guidance and training to field and area office personnel to ensure accurate application of conservation practices.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Range Management, Natural Resources Management, Rangeland Ecology, Rangeland Science or a related field within Agriculture or Environmental Science.

• Ability to utilize USG templates to create conservation plans for landowners in the Southwestern U.S.
,
• Understanding of federal land management grazing permit policies and procedures.
,
• Ability to read and interpret Agricultural Resource Management Plans (ARMP) and Integrated Resource Management Plans (IRMP).

Nice-to-haves
• Two years of rangeland management experience.
,
• Experience in natural resources management for or in coordination with federally recognized tribes.
,
• Familiarity with determining stocking rates of rangeland or open range grazing units.
,
• Experience assisting in the development of grazing management systems on grazing lands.
,
• Experience assisting with forage inventories and implementing vegetative management practices.
