Job Description

Maine's Public Universities is seeking a Quantitative Modeling Expert for a climate-focused project in Orono, ME. The role involves conducting climate-integrated research related to fish stock dynamics, integrating climate data into stock assessments, and evaluating management strategies. Strong communication skills are required for stakeholder engagement and presentations. This is a full-time position with no specific degree requirement.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct climate-integrated research through the Northeast Climate Integrated Modeling initiative (NCLIM), examining relationships between climate, oceanographic processes, and key aspects of fish stock dynamics. Responsibilities will include:
• Conducting climate-integrated modeling to inform fishery resource decision making in a changing Northeast U.S. shelf ecosystem
• Integrating climate information into stock assessment models
• Applying management strategy evaluation to test alternative approaches to account for climate change impacts within the fisheries decision-making process

This position requires strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced through publications in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and presentations to a variety of audiences. You will be expected to participate in stakeholder and regional fisheries management meetings, interact with representatives from industry, federal and state scientific agencies, fishery management councils, and non-governmental organizations.
