Job Description
The Quality Control Officer at Corporate Environmental Risk Management (CERM) in Atlanta, GA, is responsible for inspecting and reporting on various phases of construction, ensuring compliance with contract documents, and maintaining professional relationships with project teams. Key duties include attending meetings, submitting daily reports, implementing quality control programs, and performing inspections. Strong knowledge of construction practices and effective communication skills are essential for this role.
JOB SUMMARY:
As a Quality Control Officer, you will be responsible for inspecting and reporting on virtually every phase of the construction process: including, but not limited to, civil (site work & utilities), roadway (asphalt and portland cement concrete paving, striping, signage), structural; mechanical and electrical. You will ensure that all contract documents represented by working drawings and specifications are properly executed by the contractors. You are also accountable for establishing and maintaining a professional working relationship with project team and owners, when applicable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Attend various meetings as needed related to assigned construction projects
• Submit detailed documentation of daily construction activities
• Assist with coordination of required project acceptance testing
• Assist in the development of a Quality Control Plan
• Implement, and Administer a Quality Control Program for the respective project(s)
• Identify and evaluate quality conditions and to initiate, recommend or provide solutions.
• Ensure good workmanship, the use of proper construction materials and equipment, and correct installation procedures are followed
• Implement quality controls that will ensure meeting the Contract requirements
• Perform pre-inspections, in-progress inspections and final inspections for acceptance of quality
• Keep project manager and site superintendent abreast of progress throughout duration of assigned projects, focusing on quality
• Maintain job specific quality system tasks as defined in quality manual
• Compose, submit and log weekly status reports, and daily reports to include: project conditions (i.e. trade manpower and work description), architectural and engineering communication and direction, general conditions, temperatures, weather conditions, general conditions and activities, site work, subcontractors and personnel, description of work performed, equipment used, verbal discussions and oral instructions, visitors to site, job requirements, photos, videos, delays
• Provide daily photos of job site construction progress. When necessary, provide photos to verify pre-construction existing building and site conditions
• Maintain satisfactory quality compliance with specifications and standards and maintain accurate records
• Perform other duties as required
Required Skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform

• Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and related equipment
• Thorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills needed for submitting extensive written reports and documentation; construction reports and logs are written and filed daily
• Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress, to detect errors in construction projects, establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners and associates
• Must be able to perform specific installation tasks and field measurements
• Must have basic mathematical skills to assist with measurements and computations of installed quantities
• Must be able to interpret and implement company mandated safety policies
• Must have an ability to operate a level and have an understanding of cut and fills and elevations for grades
• Must be fluent in reading and writing English.
• Must be able to operate a computer and computer software related to word processing and spreadsheets
Required Experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
• A degreed engineer having either heavy or building construction experience, and electrical experience as applicable, of not less than seven (7) years, and preferably in Quality Control "OR"
• A non-graduate having either heavy or building construction experience, and electrical experience as applicable, of not less than ten (10) years, three of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity and preferably experienced in Quality Control
• A candidate is preferred to have a certification in Quality but is not required
LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
• CQI certifications are preferred, but not required
• American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification is preferred, but not required
• Valid Georgia Driver’s License required and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company policy standards
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Frequently required to stand up to eight hours or more at a time
• Required to walk in rugged conditions
• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
• Occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Frequently works in outside weather conditions
• Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
• The noise level in the work environment is often high
• Travel, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours may be required
