First Environment, Inc. is seeking a Proposal Specialist in Butler, NJ (Hybrid) to manage the proposal development process for environmental engineering and consulting services. Responsibilities include writing, editing, and formatting proposals for various clients, including government RFPs. The ideal candidate should have 3-7 years of proposal writing experience, excellent communication skills, and familiarity with desktop publishing software.

First Environment, Inc.—an environmental engineering and consulting company that provides strategic environmental and engineering services throughout the U.S.—is currently seeking a Proposal Specialist to work with our proposal development process. This includes the development and delivery of our business proposals, from identification and tracking through delivery and follow-up. Proposals range in size from simple letter proposals and retainer letters for private sector clients to large scale responses to government RFPs, including SF 330 proposals for Federal agencies as well as state and local government proposals. The position requires working closely with marketing staff, market area technical leads, operations, and accounting.
Our ideal candidate should be an outstanding writer and editor, very comfortable with tight deadlines, working under pressure, being creative, highly accountable, and eager to impact a growing firm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Read RFP documentation and create a preliminary proposal checklist.
• Responsible for researching, writing, reviewing, editing, and formatting customized content for compelling proposals in a timely fashion.
• Completion of necessary forms and proposals for physical or electronic production, submission, and/or shipping to ensure timely proposal delivery.
• Assist in developing and updating accurate, powerful, and attractive marketing materials, including company profiles, project sheets, resumes, advertisements, brochures, and handouts .
• Research and assist in writing, editing, and proofreading proposal development material such as firm qualifications, cover letters, project descriptions, staff biographies, and resumes tailored to each pursuit.
• Incorporate technical narratives.
• defining and managing all elements of the proposal development process
• tracking of RFPs and facilitating go/no go decisions
• gathering research data related to clients; competitors; past, current, and prospective markets; and relevant corporate experience
• identifying and monitoring proposal criteria to ensure response is fully compliant
• proofreading proposal content for readability, correct grammar and punctuation, and consistent style and brand voice
• managing and updating of SOQ’s, resumes and project descriptions
• ensuring proposal QA/QC
• preparing or assembling written and visual information for client presentations
• Communicate key information within the firm
If you have a strong background in consulting in the environmental consulting or engineering industry, excellent project management skills, and a knack for persuasive writing, we would like to hear from you.
Qualifications and Experience:
• 3-7 years of professional experience in proposal writing, technical proposal coordination and writing, specifically for federal government agencies, and public agency RFPs in the environmental and/or engineering industry
• Excellence in proposal writing and preparation, with an understanding of best practices;
• Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders;
• Experience with desktop publishing software, to assist in the production and formatting of the proposal.
• Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken).
• Strong attention to detail and project management skills
• Ability to work well with various types of personalities and work styles
• Advanced MS Word/Excel skills and proficiency in MS Office programs
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (i.e., InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
• Subject matter expertise in proposal and RFP best practices (i.e., Shipley Proposal Method, SMPS, APMP, etc.)
• Understanding SOQ/proposal production, including digital and printing/binding
• Familiarity with industry guides and best practices related to grammar and style, including digital tools and resources
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, or related field and/or environmental industry specific experience
Salary $75,000-$85,000
