Job Description
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is seeking a Project Manager for its Waste Management Campus in Chalk River, ON. The role involves strategizing and implementing program initiatives, managing budgets, and overseeing project teams to achieve organizational goals. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and proven experience in project management, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement. Key responsibilities include developing project scopes, managing risks, ensuring operational alignment, and facilitating continuous improvement while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.

The Project Manager, Waste Management Campus Program is responsible for strategizing, implementing, and maintaining program initiatives that adhere to organizational objectives. Developing program assessment protocols for evaluation and improvement. Maintaining organizational standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance. Overseeing multiple project teams, ensuring program goals are reached. Managing budget and funding channels for maximum productivity.
What will you be doing!
• Working closely with the project sponsor, cross-functional teams, and assigned project managers to develop the scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, and timing for new initiatives.
• Managing program and project teams for optimal return on investment, and coordinate and delegate cross-project initiatives.
• Identifying key requirements for cross-functional teams and external vendors.
• Developing and managing budget for projects and be accountable for delivering against established business goals/objectives.
• Working with other program and project managers to identify risks and opportunities across multiple projects within the department.
• Analyzing, evaluating, and overcoming program risks, and producing program reports for managers and stakeholders.
• Leading integration and collaboration with different organizations (internal and external to CNL) to ensure operational alignment for the Waste Management Campus.
• Leading and coordinating operational readiness reviews, through supporting the development of plans and procedures, and by facilitating independent assessments for readiness and continuous improvement.
• Leading and maintaining the momentum of change through management action, strategic advice, and consultancy on processes and initiation to help change the organization to improve safety, productivity, and employee competency.
• Establishing and maintaining standards and policies for human performance, using industry best practices.
• Providing support for other Managers and Project Leaders in the identification and application of lessons learned, OPEX and experience-based learning.
• Performing other duties as assigned, as generally required of all CNL Managers, and which may be delegated by Environmental Remediation Management Senior Leadership.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for :
• Education
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business administration or related field.
• Experience
• Proven experience in program and/or project management, managing a team, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven experience in leading others and achieving objectives through the efforts of team resources.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Mature management skills in the following domains: strategic planning, setting priorities, project management, problem solving, decision making and all aspects of resource management.
• Strong interpersonal skills in working with senior management and staff of the organization, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
• Exceptional skills in leadership, time management, facilitation, and organization.
• Strong project management skills, with a proven ability to lead complex projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage significant change initiatives.
• An ability to approach and analyze issues from a process perspective to implement lasting solutions.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing demands or circumstances and prioritizing accordingly to meet tight deadlines.
• A proven record in demonstrating leadership of technical organizations dealing with a diverse group of internal and external customers.
• Excellent understanding of effective leadership concepts, skill sets, application, and training.
• Excellent written and verbal communication ability with a variety of internal and external organizations and levels.
• Ability to foster a team environment by understanding and managing group dynamics. Ability to solicit points of view, ideas, and opinions from team members to help form decisions or plans in achieving organizational unit objectives.
• Requires strong human resources skills, ability to listen and quickly address human resources issues, and motivate staff to achieve high levels of professionalism to ensure business alignment of business objectives at all levels of the operation.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive as a member of a large, matrix project team working collaboratively with peers, staff, and senior management to achieve project objectives in an environment characterized by frequent deadlines, complex decisions, competing demands, and client scrutiny.
• Outstanding knowledge of change management principles and performance evaluation processes.
• Demonstrated ability to hire, develop and manage technical and support resources to realize their potential and to make effective use of consulting services to deliver the expected results on a value-for-money basis.
• Strong communication skills, and experience preparing concise reports on strategic/technical topics, issues management, and risks.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
• Level 2 Secret which has a minimumrequirement of 7 years of verifiable history inCanada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.CNL implements security screeningin accordance withthe Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
