The Project Manager is an agent of change with accountability for driving success over a full project or programme lifecycle. The project manager designs, plans and implements projects and programmes, either standalone or as part of a larger programme, or programmes according to scope, targets and objectives set for time of delivery, budget and quality. Key accountabilities include: successful project/programme delivery in line with the defined success criteria and set goals effective and consistent project/programme communications and reporting to business and IT stakeholders smooth change deployment and handover to operations, driving quality and compliance successful adoption of the solution, ensuring appropriate roll-out strategy and engagement contribution and ongoing improvement of the project management tools and methodology (as part of the project management community)
Accountable for successful project/programme delivery in line with the defined success criteria and set goals o Lead in the delivery and governance of projects/programmes which support and enhance business activities and IT architecture to agreed success factors and KPIs (time, cost, quality, scope, risk and budget). Evaluate and monitor these KPIs throughout the project lifecycle.
o Scope and shape projects/programmes, leading to defining an appropriate delivery approach for each. The Project Manager remains outcome-focussed throughout the full delivery lifecycle. o Provide professional project management expertise, consultancy and challenge to business and IT change activities, acting as a true business partner to senior business colleagues. o Develop and maintain a high-level integrated plan showing the big picture, to support stakeholder engagement.
o Set, deploy and demonstrate effective governance controls around risk and issue management and escalation, with emphasis on the most significant items. o Manage and track budget, providing an ongoing challenge around scope and associated business case, and (if and when required) submit changes to the budget authorisation process. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the project business case. o Identify and source the required resources, either external or internal, as well as monitor and manage their performance throughout the project/programme, providing corrective supervision if necessary o Apply and manage Agile approaches when appropriate
Accountable for effective and consistent communications and reporting to business and IT stakeholders o Develop and maintain a clear stakeholder map highlighting different stakeholder needs and interaction preferences o Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholder vital to the success of the project or programme
o Establish clear communication mechanisms to promote project/programme vision, direction, priorities as well as manage diverse stakeholders expectations incl. sponsor, business representatives, suppliers. Deliver reporting which is effective, targeted and succinct. o Issue appropriate level status reports that target key stakeholders needs and enable progress transparency as well as early warning of any upcoming risks and issues
Accountable for smooth change deployment and handover to operations, driving quality and compliance o Plan or coordinate and/or oversee all handover activities, actively preparing and training operational teams to take on the new solution / service : Internal o Engage with service and release management, or oversee this engagement to provision the necessary environments and processes to support new solution / service o Manage handover risks and issues, resolving any high impact and urgent issues and securing any relevant approvals to launch the transition to operations o Provision of necessary support to the operational teams post-handover, checking that solution performance hits the expected measures and performance indicators
Accountable for successful adoption of the solution, ensuring appropriate roll-out strategy and engagement o Provide business stakeholders with the right information that enables functional impact assessment and helps shape the right change management initiatives. Support benefits identification and management. o Develop and provide project/programme specific content for wider communication and engagement initiatives (working with the Internal Communications team) o Provision post implementation support to ensure no detrimental effect on the business as usual (floor-walking, remote support, etc.) o Encourage business feedback on the solution / service performance, testing it against initial requirements and expectations ]
Accountable for contribution and ongoing improvement of the project management tools and methodology (as part of the project management community) o Provide ongoing challenge to the IT delivery approach, improving all core aspects of the approach incl. estimation, processes, standards and tools o Continuously improve project management toolkit and methodologies used across IT o Provide expertise and consulting to other project managers, acting as a role model for new community joiners (if relevant) o Document and share lessons learnt with the wider community, providing briefing sessions on specific areas of interest / expertise
Job specific aspects of role o Stakeholder relationship management ranges from immediate business representatives and project team through to complex engagement with executive level stakeholders in diverse functions of the organisation o Vendor management: ranges from no vendor management responsibilities through to management of multi-vendor teams across project or programme activities o Project complexity and scale: ranges from small, low complexity projects with limited dependencies and cross-functional impact through to large, high complexity projects or programmes that have multi-functional impact and a wide range of key dependencies on other programmes and projects o Team leadership: ranges from small internal teams to large, matrix, internal and external teams.,
