SPG Vision: Being part of the global energy solution by becoming the world’s preeminent renewable energy company.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a Project Manager with proven experience in solar PV development who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can lead complex projects from concept to construction readiness. You’ll manage portfolios, navigate permitting and interconnection challenges, and collaborate cross-functionally to keep projects on time and within budget.
Why You Should Join SPG:
• Dynamic Team: Join a motivated, mission-driven team with deep experience in project development and renewable energy. SPGer: It’s more than a role, it’s a mindset.
• Purposeful Work: Help accelerate the clean energy transition while making a positive impact on communities and the environment.
• Autonomy & Ownership: Manage full project lifecycles and take real responsibility for outcomes.
• Multi-Jurisdictional Impact: Work on projects across diverse regulatory environments and markets in both the U.S. and Canada.
• Flexibility: Enjoy a hybrid work model (Toronto-based) or fully remote structure (U.S.-based) with regular collaboration.
Key incompatibilities:
• Manage project development activities of project/portfolios by working with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the entire project development cycle: land evaluation/acquisition, planning and permitting, interconnection, engineering, site surveying, environmental and regulatory compliance, power purchase agreement, and financial evaluation.
• Achieve project development milestones on time and within budget to enable projects to move successfully into construction readiness (CNTP), transaction, and construction.
• Identify potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to minimize project delays and cost overruns. Monitoring and managing risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of eligible project incentives, potential revenue streams, and program rules to ensure effective implementation and compliance.
• Manage and report project portfolio data, timelines, project/portfolio budgets, and deliverables with deadlines using various tools. Consistently maintaining and updating portfolio reports, project/portfolio budgets, and project/portfolio databases to enable project and portfolio-level analysis and management reporting of development status.
• Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis and financial modeling for the evaluation of a solar PV portfolio of projects and providing advice on project financial feasibility.
• Cultivate relationships with local government, permitting authorities, regulatory agencies at all tiers in the US and Canada (e.g., USEPA, USFWS, and Conservation Authorities), utilities, and other stakeholders to obtain required permits and approvals.
• Manage consultants and project stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of all project deliverables. Conducting site visits and coordinating field staff/consultants.
• Review and manage project contracts, including leases, interconnection agreements, power purchase agreements, consultant contracts, term sheets, and project buyer (client) contracts, to ensure compliance with their terms.
• Perform the due diligence process of solar projects, including coordinating with internal functional teams (e.g., business development, legal, project finance, engineering, etc.) and external consultants and advisors.
• Utilize planning tools to effectively monitor and optimize project costs and timelines.
• Maintain detailed project documentation systems and records, including those related to budgets, schedules, quality, and project management.
• Develop sales presentations, proposals, and supporting materials to support the transaction of construction-ready projects.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in solar or energy storage.
• Hands-on experience in developing solar PV projects through the full project development cycle, including land evaluation and acquisition, planning and permitting, interconnection, engineering, site surveying, environmental and regulatory compliance, power purchase agreements, and financial evaluation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as planning, geography, renewable energy, project management, or a related discipline. PMP designation is a bonus.
• Understanding of the US regulatory landscape and permitting processes for solar projects is must. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental compliance, grid interconnection, zoning, and permitting requirements is necessary.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks.
• Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams effectively.
• Experience in managing teams, multiple projects simultaneously and overseeing the entire project lifecycle.
• Excellent communication, leadership skills and ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, regulatory authorities, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
