Job Description

The Firelight Group is seeking a Project Manager for Environmental Assessment, responsible for managing complex research projects and ensuring alignment with company values. The role involves overseeing project execution, budgets, and team coordination. This position offers a salary between $86,700 and $96,900 and can be performed remotely or from offices in Toronto or Montreal. The start date is April 1, 2025.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Environmental Assessment Project Manager is highly skilled and experienced in managing complex research and engagement projects with large budgets and managing multiple projects simultaneously. With expertise in project management and implementation, the Project Manager manages projects for Firelight teams, informing the overall strategy, management, and delivery of projects. The Project Manager provides consistently superior client experience, enhancing the image and reputation of the company and ensuring Firelights values guide project strategies and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES + DUTIES

Project Management
• Oversee the management, execution and evaluation of complex, multi-method projects aligned to Firelight values and client expectations
• Develop and monitor project scope, plans, budgets, and schedules to ensure successful project delivery; ensure timely execution of current, planned, and/or adjusted tasks in alignment with the project scope and schedule
• Identify and allocate fiscal and human resources, develop work plans and delegate tasks and work appropriately to achieve project success
• Oversee and coordinate the work of research teams and provide individual feedback to identify areas for further development and growth
• Oversee and manage project budgets to ensure project profitability and healthy cash flow
• Manage staff time and project tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of projects while minimizing staff over time
• Coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure timely invoicing
• Manage information, data and documents following established procedures; assure quality control and security of research data
• Develop and implement project management tools and procedures to support project and team efficiency, workflow and communications.
• Oversee logistical coordination of multi-day community engagement with research teams

Client Engagement
• Work with and coordinate the activities of community partners and others, including Firelight team members and external consultants, to develop, manage, and implement projects
• Support project teams by nurturing and cultivating partner and client relationships through service excellence, knowledge transfer, and skills development

People Leadership
• Foster a positive and respectful workplace aligned to Firelights values and objectives
• Provide feedback on staff performance to the Program Manager to inform performance management and professional development
• Supervise researchers on project-specific work
• Ensure all project work, including while traveling for in-community and on-territory work, meets all health and safety guidelines and regulations and provide recommendations for enhancing health and safety guidelines across Firelight projects.
• Support the development of Firelights organizational learning and knowledge on the principles and practice of effective and culturally appropriate project management practices (approaches)

QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE
• 7+ years experience working in a consulting environment in the natural resource and environment sector
• 5+ years of experience working with and for Indigenous communities
• Experience supervising and mentoring staff
• Project management professional (PMP) designation an asset
• Experience in Environmental Assessment and asset, with a focus on Indigenous engagement and assessment.
