Summary of Position Functions

The Project Engineer II is responsible for the identification and development of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) and Facility Improvement Measures (FIMs) that are the basis of Guaranteed Energy Savings Projects. The position requires an innovative solutions-oriented engineer. Leadership is required to work within the project development team to fully develop the solutions and stay on schedule. The team will typically comprise of an Account Manager, M&V specialist, and Project Manager. High importance is placed on communication skills to convey the solutions with accurate scopes of work, existing conditions, energy savings, and M&V plan. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Essential Position Functions
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Owners, Architects, Engineers, Project Team, Account Executive and Subcontractors.
• Communicate regularly with all team members regarding project development progress, open and closed tasks and issues.
• Analyze facility utility consumption, review capital and operating budgets, set preliminary performance targets and perform initial energy savings benchmarking.
• Conduct facility walk-thru to identify/verify preliminary scope items.
• Prepare a preliminary cost estimate for the Improvement Measures that address customer needs.
• Participate in the presentation of the Feasibility Report to the customer.
• Create a development plan, timeline, budget, and project development control index.
• Provide facility existing conditions descriptions, utility analysis, facility energy profile, preliminary facility improvement and energy conservation measure explanations.
• Identify potential Energy Savings, applicable Utility Rebates, or Incentives.
• Develop detailed MEP Scopes of Work, Specifications and Preliminary Implementation Schedule.
• Solicit bids from qualified contractors.
• Facilitate subcontractor pre-bid meeting and facility walk-thru with Regional Operations Manager and Project Developer.
• Address any Requests for Information.
• Receive subcontractor bids and review for completeness.
• Prepare final estimate and assess project risk.
• Complete energy savings calculations and/or energy modelling for the establishment of the project’s energy savings guarantee.
• Validate the Energy Savings Guarantee and M&V Plan.
• Participate in project interviews.
• Participate in final Turnover Meeting with the Development and Operations Teams.
• Assist the Regional Operations Manager with the review of Submittals and Shop Drawings.
• Support the Project Manager as required during Construction.

Education and Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 7+ years’ experience in energy-related field with experience in the development of Energy Conservation Measures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficiency in computer applications, preferably Microsoft Office with an understanding of Microsoft Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
• Strong relationship and communicative skills demonstrated by the ability to work collaboratively with a team of like-minded Professionals, Owner representatives, third-party consultants and/or subcontractor’s representatives.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
• Valid driver's license required.
• Professional Engineer Licensure and Certified Energy Manager credentials preferred.
