Job Description
• Lead the development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Spain and Portugal, overseeing the entire process from identifying opportunities to commissioning. This involves designing and implementing innovative energy storage solutions, both for standalone and hybrid installations.
• Evaluate the potential interconnections with the existing electrical grids in Spain and Portugal. Ensure that BESS projects can be effectively integrated into the transmission and distribution systems by conducting detailed capacity analyses and identifying any technical or infrastructure constraints.
• Manage and optimize the energy storage capacity for battery installations, ensuring that systems operate with maximum efficiency and flexibility. This contributes to the overall stability of the Iberian electrical grids, enhancing energy efficiency.
• Handle the technical and regulatory aspects related to interconnecting BESS systems to the electricity grid in Spain and Portugal. Work closely with local authorities, grid operators, and other stakeholders to secure the necessary permits and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations in the Iberian region.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration with grid operators, regulatory bodies, engineers, local companies, and other key players in the Iberian energy ecosystem. Maintain strong relationships throughout all phases of the projects.
• Identify and assess market opportunities for expanding energy storage solutions in Spain and Portugal. Leverage knowledge of grid capacity and the growing demand for renewable energy to guide strategic decisions.
• Define and implement strategies for energy storage solutions in the Iberian region. Consider renewable energy demand, associated costs, capacity requirements, and available interconnection solutions to maximize the impact of these systems.
Qualifications
• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in developing renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or hybrid storage and RE generation solutions in the Iberian market.
• In-depth knowledge of the electrical infrastructure in Spain and Portugal, including transmission and distribution systems. Experience in managing the technical aspects of interconnecting energy storage systems in both countries is essential.
• An in-depth understanding of grid capacity evaluation and interconnection management within the Iberian region is required.
• A solid understanding of the local and international regulations relevant to the interconnection of energy storage projects in Spain and Portugal, as well as expertise in permitting, licensing, and safety protocols.
• Excellent communication skills are crucial for interacting with various stakeholders, such as technicians, regulators, local authorities, and communities. The ability to articulate clearly the value and potential impact of BESS projects is key.
• Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of Portuguese would be an advantage.
• Proven experience in managing complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and technical specifications.
