About the position

The Senior Director of Environmental Justice at the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Environmental Justice Policy. This position focuses on building relationships with stakeholders, advancing environmental justice initiatives, and advising senior staff on equity issues. The Senior Director will work collaboratively across various teams to ensure that environmental justice considerations are integrated into DCR's operations, programs, and services, ultimately promoting equal access and meaningful involvement for all residents in Massachusetts.

Responsibilities
• Support cross-agency implementation of EEA Environmental Justice Policy and DCR's Environmental Justice Strategy.

• Build relationships with elected officials, partner organizations, and stakeholders to advance environmental justice goals.
,
• Advance environmental justice throughout the agency, collaborating with DCR Division Managers and staff.
,
• Engage with external stakeholders and maintain a comprehensive list of community partners for open communication.
,
• Track progress on DCR's Environmental Justice Strategy using data analysis tools.
,
• Manage DCR's Language Access Planning and program implementation.
,
• Guide training and internal engagement opportunities related to environmental justice.
,
• Oversee the environmental justice webpage, ensuring accurate and accessible information is provided.
,
• Provide guidance on the MEPA process and its impact on environmental justice populations.
,
• Manage staff including the Environmental Justice Internal Agency Coordinator.

Requirements
• Five (5) years of professional or managerial experience in a relevant field.
,
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
,
• Experience in building relationships with elected officials and stakeholders.
,
• Strong problem-solving skills in complex environments with conflicting interests.
,
• Cultural sensitivity and rapport-building with environmental justice populations.
,
• Experience with data visualization, data analysis, and ArcGIS tools.

• Project management experience with attention to detail.
,
• Strong interpersonal skills and relationship maintenance abilities.
,
• Experience with database management, including Access and Excel.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in environmental justice initiatives or related fields.

• Familiarity with legislative processes and policy advocacy.
