About this Role

Rainier Climate is seeking a Program Director, Climate Finance, to join its world-class team in Bellevue, Washington. The selected candidate will work closely with the President and Co-founders to oversee a grantmaking portfolio focused on climate finance in the U.S. and globally. This role involves shaping innovative strategies to redirect finance from high- to low-carbon activities and identifying opportunities for market-based solutions to climate change. The Program Director will assess climate finance flows, identify ways to engage capital markets and private actors in low-carbon investments, and support innovations in the finance sector. A key responsibility includes developing grantmaking strategies that align public and private interests in climate finance, and facilitating strategic partnerships to advance climate mitigation.

Responsibilities
• Lead the development and implementation of a grants portfolio focused on climate finance and market-based strategies.
• Conduct research and due diligence to identify gaps in the philanthropic landscape.
• Develop grantmaking strategies by identifying promising grant concepts and proposing high-risk/high-return strategies.
• Provide analysis of project strengths and weaknesses, working to improve grant proposals and documentation.
• Establish partnerships with the finance, policy, corporate, and philanthropic sectors.
• Stay informed on trends, interventions, and emerging issues in finance and market-based solutions for climate change.
• Convene meetings of external stakeholders to explore and coordinate strategies.
• Contribute to Rainier’s learning and impact assessment framework.
• Manage external relationships and facilitate learning opportunities for grant recipients.

Requirements

• Relevant experience in traditional and blended finance, across both developed and emerging economies.

• Understanding of climate change and climate financing fields.
• Experience in financial or macroeconomic modeling related to energy and climate markets.
