Job Description
ClimateWorks Foundation is seeking a Program Assistant for its Maritime Shipping Team to support strategy, grantmaking, and analytical functions. The role involves tracking grantmaking timelines and engaging with the team's substantive work. ClimateWorks is dedicated to ending the climate crisis through philanthropy, focusing on decarbonizing global maritime shipping by collaborating with various stakeholders. This position is remote, allowing candidates to work from anywhere.

About our Maritime Shipping Program
ClimateWorks Foundation has been funding and coordinating a coalition of analysts and advocates working to decarbonize global maritime shipping, via policy & politics, industry cooperation, and technology development for over a decade. Our work spans from efforts to make advances in the International Maritime Organization, to cooperation with leading corporate customers of shipping services, to supporting local environmental movements in port communities affected by pollution.
Job Summary
We are seeking a junior colleague who will be the organizational backbone of the team, supporting our strategy, grantmaking and analytical functions. The candidate will have plenty of opportunity to engage in the substantive work of the maritime shipping team, and will have room to take on issue areas as appropriate, but will focus on the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Working in close consultation with the full shipping team, the Program Assistant’s duties will include:
- Keeping track of grantmaking timelines
- Staying on top of reporting requirements to our funders
- Helping write and manage internal and external communications products
- Identifying practical needs in our coalition together with our consultants
- Helping prepare annual plans and tracking our monitoring, evaluation and learning.
- Supporting convening through e.g. developing and tracking contracts
- Liaising with our development team to support funder outreach
- Helping schedule meetings with grantees and track our contacts
The Program Assistant will report to the Associate Director of the Maritime Shipping Program.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
● A track record of passion for environmental issues (e.g., in coursework or professional history)
● A Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years experience and/or Master’s plus 1 year of experience
● Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
● Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
● Positive, collaborative personality
● Experience synthesizing research and analysis for time-pressed decision-makers
● Strong writing, editing, and communications skills
● Comfort using a range of organization software tools such as Salesforce, Asana, Office
Compensation
ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience (geographic differential applied based on location).
Salary Range (Bay Area / NYC): $65,000 - $70,000 annually
Salary Range (Other US): $60,000 - $65,000 annually

Location
The location of the position is flexible, recognizing that ClimateWorks headquarters are located in San Francisco and the individual should be available to participate in meetings and events in that time zone, as well as being available for collaboration with global partners at various times of day. Candidates can work from the SF office or from other locations; a geographic differential is applied to compensation based on the local cost of labor.
