Department Summary
With 26 core faculty, more than 100 participating faculty from 30
campus departments and programs, more than 600 undergraduate
majors, and a strong cohort of masters and doctoral graduate
students, the Environmental Studies Program sets the standard in
interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration. Our teaching and
research spans across the humanities, social sciences, natural
sciences, design fields, and education.
Position Summary
The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Oregon is
soliciting applications for its open pro tem instructor pool.
Positions are limited-duration instructional appointments that are
part-time or short-term, with possibility of renewal depending on
program needs, funding, and performance. The successful candidate
will have the potential to offer teaching on topics in
environmental studies that is engaged, inclusive, and
research-informed, and that meets curricular needs in Environmental
Studies degree programs. These are the undergraduate degrees in
Environmental Studies and Environmental Science, the master's
degree in Environmental Studies, and the PhD in Environmental
Sciences, Studies, and Policy (ESSP).
Potential areas of expertise include environmental science
sustainable resource development, environmental health, ecological
sustainability, environmental justice, and environmental-related
areas.
Minimum Requirements
• Master's degree in Environmental Studies or related field,
relevant to area of instruction.
Professional Competencies
• Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and
staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
• Ph.D./terminal degree in field related to area of
instruction.
