Job Description

LSP Renewables is hiring a Principal Business Development Manager in London to lead the growth strategy for utility-scale battery storage projects. Responsibilities include overseeing project portfolios, identifying new revenue streams, contributing to M&A activities, and managing stakeholder collaboration. The ideal candidate should have experience in battery storage, renewable energy project management, and strong leadership skills. This position requires on-site presence in London.
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Principal Business Development Manager to lead the growth strategy and execution of utility-scale battery storage projects within the renewable energy sector. This role will be instrumental in driving the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge energy storage technologies, overseeing projects from planning submission to investment approval, and ensuring a seamless, de-risked handover to the Construction team. You will work on a portfolio of projects, identify new revenue streams, and explore opportunities for long-duration energy storage (LDES) solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead Strategic Growth: Spearhead the growth strategy for utility-scale battery storage projects, focusing on commercialisation and the development of innovative energy storage solutions.

· Project Portfolio Management: Oversee a portfolio of projects, ensuring efficient project delivery, milestone tracking, and effective management of a small team of Business Development Managers and Developers.

· Commercial Opportunities & Innovation: Identify and develop new revenue streams, including opportunities for grid services, integration of advanced battery technologies, and long-duration energy storage (LDES) solutions.

· Origination & M&A: Contribute to origination, M&A activities, and project disposals to unlock new business avenues.

· Strategic Input & Policy Analysis: Provide strategic insights, assessing changes in policy, regulations, and market dynamics that impact the battery storage and renewable energy sectors.

· Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, procurement, legal, financial analysis), to de-risk projects and ensure robust investment cases.

· Project Governance & Reporting: Manage internal governance processes for each project, ensuring timely reporting on key milestones and budget performance.

· Financial & Risk Management: Oversee project budgets, financial planning, and manage risk mitigation strategies for each stage of the project lifecycle.

· Global Collaboration: Network and collaborate with other teams across EMEA, the Americas, and Asia, sharing best practices and knowledge to drive international growth.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

To excel in this role, we are looking for a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of battery storage, renewable energy projects, and project management. You should be passionate about advancing the energy transition and skilled at navigating complex stakeholder landscapes.

· Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead and manage a high-performing team, ensuring the successful allocation of resources and the development of team members.

· Strategic Vision: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on identifying commercial opportunities and understanding key technology and market drivers in the battery storage sector.

· Project & Portfolio Management: Demonstrable experience managing large-scale battery storage or renewable energy projects, driving them from initial development to a de-risked, investment-ready stage.

· Technical & Commercial Expertise: Solid understanding of the technical aspects (grid connection, planning consent, site design) and commercial dimensions (land leases, equipment procurement, financial models) of energy storage projects.

· Financial Acumen: Ability to forecast revenue, assess risks, and prepare robust business cases and investment materials for securing project financing.

· Energy Market Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the UK energy market, including policy, regulatory trends, and emerging opportunities within the renewable energy and battery storage sectors.

· Cross-Functional Coordination: Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, procurement, investment, legal) to successfully deliver large-scale projects.

· Attention to Detail & Critical Thinking: Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to challenge assumptions and propose innovative solutions to improve project outcomes.

· Stakeholder Engagement: Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders across the business, and broader industry networks.
