JOB SUMMARY:

In collaboration with our esteemed client, we are seeking an adept and seasoned Hydroelectric Plant Operator to join their team. This candidate reports directly to facility management, the successful candidate will assume a pivotal role in the intricate operations and control processes of a hydroelectric generating plant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Operate pumps, generators, auxiliaries, switches, and valves using unit control panels, plant control room, or remote control center. • Initiate, synchronize, regulate, stop, and secure generators. • Monitor and optimize plant controls for efficient operation. • Manage circuit breakers, disconnects, and ground switches. • Prepare, issue, and execute intraplant clearances. • Make decisions to ensure a safe working environment. • Meet irrigation demands as per schedule. • Maintain a comprehensive station log and report on operations. • Calculate power and water flows to fulfill assigned schedules. • Coordinate activities with interconnecting facilities. • Support the Senior Hydroelectric Plant Operator in all aspects of plant and system operation. • Perform other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

KNOWLEDGE OF: • Fundamentals of electricity, hydraulics, and hydrology. • Functional characteristics of generating units, auxiliary machinery, busses, switches, control circuits, valves, spillways, metering, and water control devices.

ABILITY TO: • Operate manual and automatic control systems. • Perform mathematical calculations. • Interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions. • Work rotating shifts. • Communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Analyze situations and take effective action. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a hydroelectric plant operator. • -OR- • Two years of operation experience in hydroelectric generating plants, large pumping plants (at least 25,000 hp), or high voltage switching and clearance in large steam plants (at least 100 mw). Experience in substations or switching yards of at least 230 kv may substitute for one year of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: • Must maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license. • Covered by the Memorandum of Understanding with Stationary Engineers, Local 39.
