Job Description

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Louisiana Watershed Flood Center. The role involves conducting interdisciplinary research on hydroclimatic extremes and flood resilience in the US Gulf regions and the Caribbean. Responsibilities include hydrologic modeling, risk assessment, and project management. The position is full-time for 12 months, with a possibility of extension based on performance.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Louisiana WatershedFlood Center (LWFC), a unit of the University's Institute for Coastal and WaterResearch (ICaWR) and an affiliated center with the Department of Civil andEnvironmental Engineering, seeks a postdoctoral scholar to support recentlyfunded National Science Foundation (NSF) research projects that focus on assessmentof disproportionate impacts of hydroclimatic extremes in US gulf regions via justice-mindedresearch and collaborative climate adaptation planning, and developing of a floodresilience framework for affected communities in the Caribbean region. The projects provide uniqueopportunities for working with interdisciplinary researchers from multiple USstates and universities (University of Alabama and the NOAA-sponsored CIROHconsortium, Louisiana State University, Tulane University, Tuskegee University,and Jackson State), as well as international universities from Canada (McGillUniversity) and the UK (Imperial College and Center for Ecology and Hydrology).Reporting to the Director of LWFC, the postdoctoral researcher will play anessential role in executing research tasks on externally funded projects,including hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, flood risk assessment, analysisof climate extremes, and disproportionate impacts on communities andinfrastructure. This is a 12-month position. The position is for 2 years with apossibility of a third year, depending on performance and project activitiesneeded.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of climate extremes, flood risk, community impacts, infrastructure resilience, and adaptation planning.

- The work will entail numerical modeling, statistical analysis, user studies, analyzing and interpreting research data, working with researchers across disciplines, and publishing research outcomes.

- Lead and manage research projects.

- Develop and implement research proposals.

- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

- Collaborate with social scientists and engineers.

- Stay current on the latest research in the area.

- Search pertinent scientific literature as needed.

- Additional projects and duties as assigned.
