Overview: The Riman Research Group at Rutgers University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join a multidisciplinary team focused on sustainable materials manufacturing technology. The successful candidate will work on research and development problems related to the separation of rare earth elements and the associated thermodynamics, as well as the synthesis and processing of minerals, waste materials, and polymers for making advanced composite materials. Responsibilities:
• Solve research and development problems related to the separation of rare earth elements and the associated thermodynamics
• Work on research enabling the synthesis and processing of minerals, waste materials, and polymers for making advanced composite materials
• Work on research related to carbon capture, storage, and supply
• Plan hypothesis-driven experiments
• Perform experiments related to synthesis and processing
• Oversee graduate students
• Build new instrumentation
• Write journal articles and patent applications
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, minerals processing, ceramics, polymers, and powder metallurgy
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills, project management, communication, and collaboration skills
• Skills in two or more of the following areas: hydrothermal synthesis, powder processing, densification methods, thermodynamics & kinetics simulations, materials characterization, and structure-property relationships
