Job Description

Iowa State University is seeking a Postdoc Research Associate in Natural Resource Ecology and Management to conduct research supporting the Nutrient Reduction Strategy. Responsibilities include improving water quality practices, providing technical support, monitoring outcomes, and overseeing undergraduate assistants. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and relevant research experience. The position is full-time, based in Ames, IA, with a proposed start date of May 15, 2025.

Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct research in support of the Nutrient Reduction Strategy Advancing Progress and Assessment Program, a multifaceted effort that will advance progress towards the goals outlined in the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy.

Duties of the position include:
• Explore methods to improve efficiency, expand applications, or reduce cost of edge-of-field water quality practices
• Provide technical support to partners in outreach, assessment, and design of edge-of-field water quality practices
• Monitor and report outcomes from edge-of-field practice installations
• Oversee undergraduate research assistants
• Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Natural Resources, Agricultural Sciences, or Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of independent and/or collaborative research experience quantifying interactions among biological, chemical and physical processes of water resources in natural and human-impacted systems
• Experience in design and monitoring of edge-of-field engineering practices for water quality improvement
• Demonstrated proficiency in analysis of water quality and environmental data using R statistical computing and graphics software
• Demonstrated and relevant record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Record of communicating research to technical and non-technical audiences at professional conferences and extension events
