Job Description
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is seeking a Post-Doc Candidate in Physics & Applied Physics to join the Quantum Semiconductor Nanostructures research group. The role involves developing laser-based digital printing techniques for semiconductors and metals. This is a full-time, four-year position located on the university's campus in Jerusalem, focusing on innovative projects and collaboration with industrial partners.
About our Campus: Hebrew University’s Edmond J. Safra Campus on Givat Ram is a vibrant hub of academic and research excellence nestled in the heart of Jerusalem. Our modern campus boasts state-of-the-art lab facilities, world-renowned faculty, and a stimulating environment that fosters scientific exploration, intellectual growth, and innovation.About Our Department: The Racah Institute of Physics, part of the Faculty of Science, is dedicated to high-quality research across a wide range of physics disciplines. Our areas of expertise include nanophysics, biophysics, nonlinear and condensed matter physics, few-body systems, nuclear and hadronic physics, high-energy physics, and astrophysics. We support a diverse group of students at all levels, offering a rigorous undergraduate curriculum and advanced graduate degrees. This commitment to excellence is exemplified by our graduate and Nobel laureate, Prof. David Gross. For more details, visit: https://phys.huji.ac.il/About Our Research: The “Quantum Semiconductor Nanostructures” research group, led by Prof. Amir Saar, is seeking a motivated post-doc candidate to join our cutting-edge research on semiconductors and digital printing.Recently, we have extended the laser-based printing method for the printing of semiconducting silicon, silicon-based devices (such as diodes, transistors and solar cells) and integrated electronic circuits. The printing method, called "LIFT" (Laser Induced Forward Transfer), is capable of printing complex structures of metals and semiconductors in three-dimensions (3D) and on virtually any surface and substrate.Job Description: The selected candidate will work on innovative projects focused on laser-based digital printing of semiconductor structures and devices. The specific research project available for a post-doc candidate (in collaboration with our industrial partners - PrintLogic Ltd.) is aimed at developing a laser-based technique for direct digital printing of metals and inorganic semiconductors. This is a full-time position with a duration of four years.About the Supervisor: Prof. Amir Sa'ar received his PhD in Physics from Tel-Aviv University in 1988 and subsequently joined Caltech as a Fulbright post-doc in Applied Physics. Since 1991, he has been a faculty member at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and became a Professor of Applied Physics in 1998. His research focuses on developing low-dimensional silicon-based semiconductor nanostructures for applications in electronics, photonics, sensing, and photovoltaics. Prof. Sa'ar has published over 150 papers and is a founding member of the Hebrew University Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology; see: https://saaramir.wixsite.com/hujiFunding: To be determined (a basic fellowship is allocated for the proper candidate; few additional competitive fellowships are also available) Your Profile (To excel in this role, we seek candidates with):Strong knowledge of Physics at the undergraduate level is required.Basic knowledge in Engineering or Applied Physics is an advantage.Good academic grades, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence and research potential, are essential.Embracing Diversity: At Hebrew University we believe that diversity inspires creativity, fosters curiosity, and enriches our ecosystem through academic collaboration and cultural exchange.
