The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) seeks a creative and motivated individual for the role of Environmental Planner 4 within our Aquatic Resources Division in Olympia, WA. This senior-level position manages 2.6 million acres of state-owned aquatic lands, contributing to Puget Sound restoration and the conservation of salmon and Orca populations. The role involves leading major environmental policy and resource planning, serving as the legislative liaison, and reviewing proposed legislation to ensure sustainable management of aquatic habitats and species.

Responsibilities:
• Aquatics Policy Analysis: Lead planning and policy development for sustainable management, conservation, restoration, and recovery of aquatic resources, including vegetation and geoduck stocks. Ensure policies align with laws, regulations, and department principles. Make site-specific land ownership determinations and manage rent appeals.
• Legislative Liaison: Serve as the primary legislative contact for the division. Support legislative proposals, develop recommendations, oversee fiscal notes, and maintain current knowledge of legislative activities.
• Supervision: Supervise the Environmental Planner 3, including delegating tasks, conducting performance reviews, and supporting professional development.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in land use, environmental, natural resource planning, or related science, plus four years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of natural resource issues, laws, policies, and planning principles at local and state levels.
• Experience in policy analysis and effective communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice.

Additional Requirements:
• Work in the Natural Resources Building or telework from home.
• No travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Research skills related to aquatic resource management.
• Experience with legislative processes, drafting bills, fiscal notes, and legislative review.
