The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is a Washington DC based think tank that helps policymakers work across the aisle to craft bipartisan solutions. By connecting lawmakers, delivering data and context, negotiating policy details, and creating space for bipartisan collaboration, BPC ensures democracy can function on behalf of all Americans. We believe that bipartisanship combines the best ideas of both parties to create even better lasting policy.

BPC is seeking a Policy Analyst to contribute to the Economic Policy Program's work on financial security, primarily focusing on retirement security and emergency savings. This portfolio centers on policies that expand access to well-designed retirement savings and emergency savings vehicles, help Americans sustain their assets throughout retirement, and resolve Social Security's structural imbalance to avoid abrupt benefit cuts when the program's trust fund becomes depleted. Opportunities may also arise to support new or existing economic policy work at BPC related to social policy, fiscal policy, or workforce policy.

**Qualifications:**

  • Strong interest in federal policy related to Social Security and/or social insurance programs, retirement, and financial security.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to clearly and concisely summarize large amounts of information.
  • Ability to create informative graphs and charts using Excel or other programs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and external stakeholders in writing and in person.
  • Preferred background in research and policy analysis related to Social Security or other social insurance assistance programs, retirement, and financial security.
  • Ability to easily find, access, manipulate, and analyze data from government and other sources, especially the Census Bureau, Federal Reserve, and Department of Labor.
  • Experience writing for public audiences and for congressional staff.
  • Experience managing diverse coalitions of stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of relevant experience OR relevant master’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience.

**Responsibilities:**

  • Perform comprehensive literature reviews and background research on various topics and summarize findings in internal briefs, blog posts, sections of reports, or other formats.
  • Analyze and visualize data to develop and support research products and policy proposals.
  • Write short pieces including explainers, one-pagers, and blog posts to comment on or explain current events related to the portfolio.
  • Contribute to substantive meetings with external stakeholders including policy experts and congressional staff.
  • Take and synthesize detailed notes to inform project action items.
  • Track policy developments on Capitol Hill and across the executive branch including attending related hearings or public/private events on behalf of BPC.
  • Work with team leadership and BPC's development team to draft grant proposals and grant reports.
  • Collaborate with communications, advocacy, and events teams to promote and advance the team's work externally.

Individuals interested in this position should send a resume, cover letter, and writing sample of no more than five pages in one document. This position is budgeted at $68,000.

**BPC benefits include:**

  • 403(b) matching contributions of up to 7% of salary in addition to a non-elective contribution of 2% of salary both after 90 days of employment.
  • 15 vacation days, 2 personal days, 15 sick days, and 12 holidays per year.
  • Education benefits up to $5,250 per year after one year of employment.
  • $2,000 for professional development expenses after six months of employment.
  • Metro benefits of up to $130 per month.
  • Generous health insurance coverage with a Flexible Spending Plan.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. BPC does not sponsor employment visas. BPC is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.

**COVID Guidelines:** The health and safety of our community is our highest priority. As such, the Bipartisan Policy Center is encouraging all newly hired staff members to be fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccine and to receive a booster shot as soon as eligible.
