The Project Development Division’s mission is to ensure Virginia Beach’s sustainable economic growth through the implementation of strategic developments. A collaborative multidisciplinary team of planners, landscape architects, urban designers and business attraction professionals utilize innovative land use planning, design, transportation, parking, marketing, and financial tools to achieve this mission and work on a number of infrastructure and development projects to create places of sustained community value.

The division oversees the Economic and Tourism Development portion of the City’s Capital Improvement Program as well as the City of Virginia Beach Development Authority’s business parks and assets. Job Duties:

The City of Virginia Beach Economic Development is recruiting a Project Planner I/II to assist in managing projects and coordinate project tasks within the Project Development Division. This role will support senior planners and project managers in various economic development initiatives.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Assist in creating maps, plans, exhibits, and development scenarios utilizing relevant software applications.
• Provide support the business development division team by gathering and organizing site data for due diligence, assisting with site selection inquiries, and responding to requests for information.
• Help review, evaluate, and analyze reports related to property acquisition, redevelopment scenarios, property values, ownerships records, and development alternatives.
• Aid in reviewing development-related applications, plans, and proposals to ensure compliance with City Code and policies concerning land development.
• Support the preparation and delivery of development project presentations to City Council appointed Boards and Commissions.
• Assist in preparing project budgets, tracking project milestones, and maintaining schedules, while supporting project managers and consultants.
• Process business incentive applications, grant applications, and assist in preparing site readiness applications for Virginia Economic Development Partnership.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Bachelors degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Architecture, Political Science or related field or four (4) years of experience utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions as Planner or Landscape Architect. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

Degree in landscape architecture, planning, geography, urban studies, engineering, or architecture
Experience with site identification, evaluation, and property reports
Experience with the land development approval process
Project management experience or certification
Proficiency with Microsoft office, Adobe Acrobat and ArcView GIS mapping
Experience with preparing presentations, publications and reports
Experience with development application preparation or review
