Job Description

Ipswich City Council is hiring a Planner/Senior Planner (Environment) to join their Environment Assessment Team. This role involves assessing development applications, providing environmental planning advice, and contributing to policy development. Candidates should have a relevant degree and knowledge of environmental legislation. This is a fixed-term, 10-month position located in Ipswich, Australia, offering a supportive workplace culture and various benefits.
Our Environment Assessment Team, within the Planning and Regulatory Services Department, have an exciting job opportunity as a Planner/Senior Planner (Environment). This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable local government experience within the fastest growing city in Queensland, and is situated within a small knit and supportive team of environmental specialists and will provide the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and diverse environmental assessment scenarios from commercial to heavy industry.

About the role

You will be responsible for environment assessment of development applications lodged to council. Your main focus will be on:
• Provide specialist environmental planning advice to development assessment activities and contribute towards departmental compliance with statutory timeframes and council’s corporate application expectations in relation to DA processing times
• Contribute to “whole of council” integration of multi-disciplinary planning and service delivery to achieve best practice outcomes in accordance with council’s strategies and policies by:
• Reviewing documentation and reports, setting environmental requirements and construction standards for development activities
• Contribute to the development and review of environment policy relating to development and the establishment of operational procedures
• Perform audit inspections, surveillance and quality control of works associated with development activities

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:
• Bachelor's degree from a reputable institution in Environmental Town Planning/Environmental Science
• Demonstrated knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environment legislation and statutory processes
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and Environmental Protection Regulations 2019, in relation to advisory and application assessment of Environmentally Relevant Activity applications
• Queensland C Class driver licence
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement experience

This is a fixed-term 10-month parental leave position, with a salary between $105,560 to $116,104 dependant on skills and experience plus 12.5% superannuation.
