Physical Oceanographic/Climate Scientist job at SAIC. Princeton, NJ. Description
SAIC is looking for a mid- to senior-level specialist to support the research activities focused on an improved understanding of the change and variability of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) and associated impacts on regional and global scale climate phenomena, which are crucial for interpreting historical records and projecting future climate change and variability. The selected candidate will play an essential role in analyzing climate model outputs in comparison with available observational datasets and carrying out scientific perturbation experiments using ocean/climate models to support the above research activities on large-scale ocean dynamics, coupled interactions with
atmosphere and cryosphere, and associated impacts in the earth system.
The selected candidate will have an advanced degree with experience in scientific research in physical oceanography or climate dynamics (or closely related field) and evidence of the level of knowledge and skills outlined below.
• Proven skill in running and using ocean and coupled climate models
• Diagnostic skills in analyzing simulated and observed datasets
• Programming in Fortran, Matlab, Ferret, and Python
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis in technical communication
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or other related scientific or technical discipline.
• One year of experience as a Systems/Software Analyst or Systems Architect.
• Background in ocean/climate dynamics (or closely related field)
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate on research related to ocean/climate dynamics
Clearance:
• Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance
SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
