About the Role

We are seeking a Petrology Scientist with expertise in basaltic rock formations and carbon sequestration in soil. The role involves studying the mineralogy and geochemistry of basalt, analyzing its potential for enhanced weathering, and developing scientifically-backed soil amendments to accelerate carbon removal. The ideal candidate will have strong research experience in rock weathering processes, soil interactions, and carbon capture technologies.

Key Responsibilities
Analyze basaltic rock compositions to assess their suitability for carbon sequestration.
Study the weathering processes of basalt minerals and their interactions with soil and atmospheric CO.
Develop and test soil amendments using crushed basalt for enhanced carbon capture.
Conduct field and laboratory experiments on basalt-soil interactions to optimize sequestration potential.
Collaborate with soil scientists, geochemists, and sustainability experts to implement large-scale applications.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of basalt-based carbon sequestration in different environmental conditions.
Integrate petrological data with remote sensing and GIS mapping to identify ideal locations for implementation.
Ensure compliance with environmental safety regulations and sustainability best practices.
Publish research findings and contribute to knowledge-sharing in the field of carbon removal.

What Were Looking For
PhD in Petrology, Geology, Geochemistry, or a related field.
Expertise in basaltic rock formations, mineral weathering, and soil geochemistry.
Strong understanding of carbon sequestration methods and soil science principles.
Experience in X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and ICP-MS for geochemical analysis.
Familiarity with enhanced weathering techniques and their potential for climate mitigation.
Ability to conduct fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and data analysis.
Passion for sustainability, climate science, and nature-based solutions.
Experience with GIS and remote sensing tools is a plus.
