Job Description

GoFundMe is hiring a Payments Risk Analyst in San Diego, CA, to protect against financial crimes by analyzing fundraisers for fraud and ensuring compliance with regulations. The role involves reviewing KYC information, conducting due diligence, and monitoring transactions. Applicants are needed for two shifts (8am-5pm and 2pm-10pm PST). This position is crucial in maintaining the integrity of fundraising efforts on GoFundMe's platform.

The GoFundMe team is searching for our next Payments Risk Analyst to act as the front line of GoFundMe's efforts to protect donors, fundraiser organizers, beneficiaries, and our company from financial crimes and abuse. As a member of the Payment Risk team, you will be responsible for analyzing fundraisers for fraud and money laundering schemes, verifying identities and KYC information, and enforcing compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Depending on your individual skill set and needs of the team, you will be asked to serve primarily in the Risk Detector or Risk Investigator role within the team structure, with the ability to adapt to both roles. We are seeking applicants to fill the first shift (8am-5pm - timezone flexible) and second shift (2pm-10pm PST).

The Job…

The Risk Detector…

Review fundraisers and conduct customer due diligence on accounts at onboarding, with a focus on quickly removing fraudulent fundraisers before they transact or withdraw funds.
Triage accounts for further investigation based on discovered risk indicators.
Conduct donor screenings and triage any potential matches for investigation.
Review customer KYC/KYB information, including by not limited to identify verification and watchlist management, escalating any potential matches to the Compliance team.
Track daily/weekly trends and perform manual analysis to proactively identify leads
Monitor sitewide trends to identify emerging risks, shifts in traffic, or opportunities to improve.
Monitor transactions through the lifecycle of a fundraiser to mitigate the risk of fraud, user error, or otherwise abusive payments.
Ensure that GoFundMe remains compliant with applicable regulations.
Audit actions taken on accounts and transactions as well as our interactions with customers and other teams to drive adherence to procedure and uniformity across teams.
Work across GoFundMe to ensure appropriate and accurate dissemination of public knowledge related to campaigns.

The Risk Investigator Job…

Investigate and/or perform outreach on prioritized triaged leads.
Review customer KYC/KYB information, including but not limited to identity verification and watchlist management, escalating any potential matches to the Compliance team.
Investigate and mitigate risks associated with NPO fundraising efforts on the GoFundMe and Classy platforms.
Review and respond to issuer disputes, and perform any outreach as necessary.
Offer guidance on any relevant escalated customer support ticket, or account review, which may include phone support.
Audit actions taken on accounts and transactions as well as our interactions with customers and other teams to drive adherence to procedure and uniformity across teams.
Interface with customers to complete vetting requirements, apprise of account status, and offer general support in the context of risk management.
Review accounts that incur a negative balance, identifying the root cause, and implementing compensating controls in concert with Lead Generators and Investigators.

2-5 years experience working in the payments industry and knowledge about merchant processing behaviors.
Knowledge of global customer due diligence, AML, CTF, sanctions, beneficial ownership requirements, Know Your Customer standards, and how these apply for a merchant and the wider financial ecosystem.
Passionate about staying current on regulatory changes, industry guidance, and card scheme compliance.
Empathetic with a strong customer-centric mindset.
Work well with a distributed global workforce and confidently maintain communication while working autonomously in a remote or hybrid environment.
Ambitious self starter with excellent attention to detail.
Fast learner, with initiative and follow through without sacrificing quality.
Strong performer, able to meet deadlines while balancing different priorities.
Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $70,000 - $95,000 + equity + benefits. As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
