Idaho Conservation Corps is seeking two Forestry Technician AmeriCorps Members for a 680-hour term from June to August 2024 at Payette National Forest in Boise, ID. About the position
The Payette National Forest is seeking two dedicated individuals to join as Forestry Technician AmeriCorps Members for a 680-hour term from June through August 2024. This position is designed for those who are passionate about forestry and environmental conservation, providing a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on reforestation efforts. Members will play a crucial role in supporting a dynamic reforestation program, which includes conducting field surveys to assess the health and survival of seedlings across the forest. This role not only emphasizes practical fieldwork but also offers professional development opportunities through various training sessions. As a Forestry Technician AmeriCorps Member, you will be responsible for navigating to designated survey plot locations throughout the forest, where you will count and measure seedlings, and record observations related to forest health and conditions. This data collection is vital for understanding the effectiveness of reforestation efforts and ensuring the sustainability of forest ecosystems. Additionally, you will be tasked with maintaining tools and equipment necessary for these activities, ensuring that all resources are in optimal condition for use. In addition to fieldwork, the position includes a training component, where members may participate in various professional development opportunities. These trainings could involve visiting tree nurseries, assisting with sowing or lift/pack operations, and receiving specialized training in tree climbing, wildland firefighting, and CPR/First Aid. This blend of fieldwork and training is designed to equip members with valuable skills and experiences that will benefit their future careers in forestry and environmental management.
Responsibilities
