Job Description

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is hiring a Partner Botanist to conduct botanical surveys in the Monongahela National Forest. Responsibilities include surveying timber management areas and monitoring Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive plant species, as well as documenting Non-Native Invasive Species. The role involves fieldwork under the supervision of experienced botanists. Salary is $15 per hour, and the position was posted 2 days ago.
The employee will conduct botanical surveys in the Monongahela National Forest. Timber management areas, prescribed burn blocks, wildlife openings, rangeland, and other restoration-focused project areas will be surveyed using a timed meander method. Survey areas will include known or potential habitat for Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive (TES) plant species, including Regional Foresters Sensitive Plant Species (RFSS) and West Virginia plant Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). Surveys will also document Non-Native Invasive Species (NNIS). Known TES occurrences will be monitored using standardized methodology. Under the co-supervision of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Botanist and the Monongahela National Forest North Zone Ecologist, duties will primarily include conducting botanical field surveys, monitoring TES populations, and collecting tabular and spatial information on TES and NNIS occurrences in project areas.
