Job Description
Zuma Canyon Orchids is seeking a Part-Time Regenerative Farmer in Malibu, CA. Responsibilities include livestock care, managing orchards and vegetable gardens, and grounds maintenance. The role involves daily interactions with guests and requires previous farming experience and knowledge of regenerative agriculture practices. The position is part-time, requiring on-site work three days a week, including at least one weekend day. No on-site housing is available.

Daily focus on tasks of regenerative agriculture and grounds maintenance on 10 acre estate in Malibu,Ca. Working with meticulously maintained orchards, livestock, no-till vegetables, landscaping and grounds infrastructure while interacting with guests.

Classification: Part-Time, Hourly
Job Summary:
Responsible for all livestock (goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, geese, dogs, cats), mixed fruit and nut orchards, no-till vegetable gardens, landscaping and grounds maintenance needs. Daily tasks include but are not limited to: feeding/watering/cleaning livestock, setting up electric fencing for rotational grazing, milking dairy animals, slaughtering/butchering, pruning, fertilizing, harvesting fruit/vegetables, planting, irrigation, mulching, weeding, seedling care, pest control, landscape maintenance, ordering feed/supplies and repair of anything associated with the above tasks. Will be interacting with all levels of guests, management and staff. Positive attitude is a must. NO ON SITE HOUSING AVAILABLE
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
● Previous farming experience
● Understanding of Regenerative Ag, Permaculture, Holistic Management, Organic Ag, Syntropic Ag, Biodynamic Ag,
Keyline Design, etc
● Understanding of Market vegetable gardening, raised bed vegetable gardening, Fruit/Nut orchard management
● Understanding and familiarity of livestock- poultry, goats, sheep, cattle, geese, pigs, etc
● Comfortable with slaughter/butchering of meat animals
● Ability to operate Tractor/Forklift/ATV/Farm Vehicles
● Ability to operate string trimmers, blowers, mowers, woodchippers, chainsaws, etc
● Ability to use pruning shears, shovels, trowels, rakes, hoes, wheelbarrows and other basic hand tools
● Ability to perform the essential functions of the job otherwise outlined
● PUNCTUAL, CLEAR COMMUNICATOR, STRONG WORK ETHIC, POSITIVE ATTITUDE, TEAM PLAYER
Time commitment and Location:
Part-Time onsite: 3 days a week, generally 8 hour days with some flexibility, working at least 1 weekend day/wk, Preferred schedule is Sunday-Tuesday from 7am to 3:30pm, or Thursday-Saturday from 7am to 3:30pm
Requirements, Physical Demands & Work Environment:
● Ability to work a flexible schedule inclusive of varying shifts such as days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
● Must be able stand, lift, bend, and walk along hilly/steep terrain for extended periods of time (8 hours)
● Must be able to move, pull, push, carry or lift of up to 50+ pounds on occasion and 50 pounds regularly
● Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands regularly and in frequent or repetitive motions
● Must be able to reach items at varying height levels (on shelves, on ground, etc.)
● Must be able to kneel, bend, crouch and climb (ladders) as required
● Must be able to work in conditions of environmental exposure to cold, heat, water, and cleaning materials.
● Must be able to remain focused in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
● Valid Driver’s License
Certificates & Training:
● Bilingual Spanish & English preferred
Pay and Benefits:
● $21/hr
● Worked Holidays paid time and a half
