Job Description

The Planner I position at Jefferson Parish Government involves acquiring, organizing, and analyzing data related to urban planning under supervision. Responsibilities include performing GIS analyses, researching zoning and subdivision records, and providing information to the public and various boards. Candidates must have relevant educational qualifications or equivalent experience. The job is full-time and located in Jefferson, LA with a salary range of $38,605 to $46,326 annually.
Kind of Work

The purpose of this position is to participate, under supervision, in the acquisition, organization, and analysis of social, economic, geographic and engineering data. Employee receives training in the techniques of Geographic Information System (GIS) and charts, graphs and maps. Researches Jefferson Parish records, including previous site plans, zoning and subdivisions, maps, permits, ordinances, etc. Performs basic statistical and GIS analyses. Performs research as appropriate to assignment area, i.e., lot and zoning histories, published and unpublished data, zoning determinations and verifications; updates case files accordingly. Analyzes the application of zoning and subdivision regulatory standards to land use and development initiatives of the Parish. Provides information assistance to the public, other department personnel, and various boards and committees regarding zoning, subdivisions, and related planning matters.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Applicant must meet ONE of the following three options:
1. Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies or City, Urban, Regional, or Community Planning.
OR
2. Possession of an accredited Bachelor’s degree (in any field of study); PLUS, either: (A) Successful completion of at least twelve (12) credit hours of graduate-level coursework from an accredited college/university in Urban Studies or City, Urban, Regional, or Community Planning OR (B) Significant (approx. one year), paid experience assisting with urban design, planning/zoning research and records management, land-use/development regulation, or with work closely related to city planning or municipal code enforcement/construction permitting.
OR
3. Possession of an accredited Associate’s degree (in any field of study); PLUS, considerable (approx. three years), paid experience, as described in Option 2(B) above.

Proof of education will be required.

Salary

$38,605.00 - $46,326.00 Annually
