Description
North Carolina Conservation Network is seeking candidates for the position of Organizer. This is a full-time staff position. The Organizer will play a critical role in NC Conservation Network’s issue advocacy, public outreach, college campus program, and non-partisan voter turnout work in North Carolina.
NC Conservation Network is a statewide network of approximately 75 environmental, health, and environmental justice organizations. NC Conservation Network advocates for equitable and sustainable solutions for our environment and public health.
Location and travel: We’re considering candidates from across NC, but strongly prefer candidates based in Greensboro or Wilmington. This position will include regular (one to two days a week) travel in North Carolina, mostly focused on a region such as the Triad, Triangle, or Eastern NC. Typically, staff based in the Triangle work out of our downtown Raleigh office on a hybrid model of some work from the office and some work from home. Candidates based outside of the Triangle will be remote.
Responsibilities
Some responsibilities include:
• Working with our organizing team to engage our activists on key environmental issues. Recent campaigns include protecting wetlands, opposing new fossil plants, calling for new environmental justice programs, supporting clean energy, and stopping PFAS pollution.
• Helping to supervise and support our Campus Fellows program, which includes students organizing on college campuses across North Carolina.
• Recruiting new activists who will join our text/email lists through petitioning, presentations, phone calls, and events.
• Event planning and mobilizations, such as volunteer events.
• Weekly attendance at meetings with organizing team, direct supervisor, Campus Fellows, and all staff.
• Mobilizing environmental voters, young voters, and voters who’ve been historically disenfranchised through non-partisan Get-Out-the-Vote programs.
Qualifications
• Ability to connect with and engage a wide array of people.
• Passion for environmental and health protections.
• Experience working or studying at an HBCU or in BIPOC communities.
• A good understanding of North Carolina and its communities.
• Experience with volunteering and advocacy.
• Strong communication, networking, and public speaking skills.
• Comfort with technology and database management.
• Comfort working non-traditional hours, including occasional weekends and evenings.
Salary/Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $38,000 – $44,000 and comes with full benefits package including health, dental, vision, matching retirement contribution, etc. Approved travel is covered by the organization.
Application Instructions
Position is open until it is filled but we recommend applying before April 4. To apply, email both a resume and cover letter to peter@ncconservationnetwork.org with the subject line: “Attn: Organizer position”
